Hail is basically made up of balls of frozen rain—during thunderstorms, as warm air carries rain droplets high up into the atmosphere, the rain freezes. As more water layers on top of a frozen droplet, it forms a hailstone. Some of the largest hailstones can fall as fast as 72 miles per hour, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. The video platform stated that the exposed information primarily includes technical data, video titles, and metadata, with some customer email addresses also accessed, according to a recent report by Bleeping Computer. The breach was claimed by the ShinyHunters extortion group, which threatened to leak the data by April 30 if a ransom was not paid. ShinyHunters also warned Vimeo of "several annoying digital problems" to come. The attack on Anodot involved attackers stealing authentication tokens, which were then used to access customer environments, primarily Snowflake, and exfiltrate data. This incident follows similar attacks on other organizations, including Rockstar Games. Vimeo has stated that the compromised data does not include video content, account credentials, or payment information, and its operations remain unaffected. The company has disabled Anodot credentials, removed the service's integration, and is investigating the incident with third-party security experts while also notifying law enforcement. Video platform Vimeo has suffered a breach involving hacking gang ShinyHunters, which stole a trove of data containing at least some user email addresses.  Vimeo disclosed the breach on Monday. ShinyHunters is trying to extort the platform by threatening to publish the stolen information unless a ransom is paid. “Pay or Leak,” ShinyHunters wrote on the group’s dark web site. This Tweet is currently unavailable. It might be loading or has been removed. Vimeo has traced the breach to a ShinyHunters attack on Anodot, a business monitoring tool. It stole authentication tokens, creating a pathway to hit other brands, including Rockstar Games, since Anodot can be integrated with Snowflake, a major cloud storage provider. Vimeo says: “Our initial findings suggest that the databases accessed primarily contain technical data, video titles and metadata, and, in some cases, customer email addresses.” It's unclear how many users are affected, but Vimeo says it has 287 million users.  Fortunately, no user login credentials, payment card information, or video content were affected. “Vimeo user and customer login credentials are secure. Video hosting platform Vimeo said user and customer data was stolen from a third-party analytics vendor during a recent data breach.  A Vimeo spokesperson confirmed that recent claims of a data breach by a cybercriminal gang were related to a security incident at Anodot, a popular business analytics company.  In a blog post released on Monday, the company tied the recent attack on Anodot to the longer string of attacks by Shinyhunters and related cybercriminal factions. Anodot did not respond to requests for comment. “We have identified that, as a result of the Anodot breach, an unauthorized actor accessed certain Vimeo user and customer data. Our initial findings suggest that the databases accessed primarily contain technical data, video titles and metadata, and, in some cases, customer email addresses,” Vimeo’s security team wrote. “Upon learning of the incident, we promptly disabled all Anodot credentials, removed the Anodot integration with Vimeo systems, and engaged third-party security experts to assist with the investigation. We have also notified law enforcement.” The hackers did not access video content, user logins or payment card information. There was no disruption to Vimeo’s services, according to the statement.
