Watch: 'Lyrically Bleating Horns' Short About an Indian Truck Driver | FirstShowing.net

by Alex Billington October 8, 2021Source: YouTube "I will seize your truck in a minute." This is an excellent 11-min short film from India, made by a talented filmmaker named Varun Chopra. He's already made a few other shorts, in addition to working in the film industry as a titles editor, but I hope he makes a feature sooner than later. Lyrically Bleating Horns is about the trials and tribulations of a long haul truck driver in India, who is battling a slow decay of life on a fast moving highway. Starring Tapesh Sharma and Rudrani Chhetri Chauhan. This provides a very distinct look at the life of truck drivers in India. They decorate their trucks to make them look vibrant and unique, but they also encounter numerous challenges on the road, from corruption of all kinds to a lack of service facilities. There's so much depth to this film, not only with the story but all the details in each frame. Thanks to Short of the Week for the tip on this one. Welcome debuts a smarter city guide app on iOS, backed by $3.5M led by Accel | TechCrunch

When you’re exploring a city — whether one you’re visiting on your travels or your own — there are a number of tools that can help you find out where to go, what to see and what to do, like Google Maps, Yelp, TripAdvisor and others. But a startup called Welcome thinks that today’s set of tools could be smarter and more personalized to the individuals who use them. Its new app instead uses “real-time” technologies to make recommendations that take into account a user’s preferences as well as other details about their current context — like the weather, season, traffic and the popularity of the place at the current time of day — in order to provide a better-curated set of recommendations. The end result is meant to be a city guide that’s more like “a concierge in your pocket,” says Welcome co-founder Matthew Rosenberg. Image Credits: Welcome Rosenberg says he was inspired to build Welcome after traveling, pre-pandemic, with his then-girlfriend, now-wife, following the acquisition of his first company, a mobile video creation app called Cameo, by Vimeo. During this time, the couple explored parts of Europe, Latin America, and the U.S., which was an amazing experience he says,…

by Alex Billington October 6, 2021Source: Vimeo "A slug doesn't move any faster than a peeing scout." How's that for an opener? Here's another gorgeous looking hand-made short film to enjoy. Ten, Twenty, Thirty, Forty, Fifty Miles a Day is an animated short made by Belgian animation filmmaker Mathieu Georis. It won the the Vimeo Staff Pick Award at the 2021 Ottawa International Animation Festival just recently, and is being featured on Vimeo's site. The short is about the time when Mathieu was in the Boy Scouts and couldn't pee in front of the other boys. It's a tale about a slug and a scout. "Using an arduous, but gorgeous glass painting technique, Georis juxtaposes a personal story of his time in the Boy Scouts against evocative monochrome colors to build place, time, and subtext." The original French title is Un Kilomètre à Pied, which translates directly to One Kilometer on Foot. Ha. The colors in this are stunning, and the animation makes it more than worth 10 mins of your time. Thanks to Vimeo Staff Picks for the tip on this one. Video sharing apps like Snapchat, TikTok and OnlyFans could face fines worth millions of pounds if they fail to crackdown on hate speech and inappropriate content on their platforms under tough new rules introduced by Ofcom.Britain’s broadcasting regulator today introduced rules governing UK-based video sharing platforms in a European first. Companies must now legally crackdown on things like hate speech and child pornography on their apps, ensure underage kids aren’t able to sign up and ensure users can report inappropriate content.“Online videos play a huge role in our lives now, particularly for children,” said Dame Melanie Dawes. “But many people see hateful, violent or inappropriate material while using them.“The platforms where these videos are shared now have a legal duty to take steps to protect their users.
