Most of these are aimed towards the general benefit of the public and environment. A recent example can be found in the form of rules being formed to ensure that all tech companies, including Apple, switch to type C charger cables to counteract plastic pollution. The EU's privacy regulations, and their imposition upon platforms such as Facebook, is yet another way that it takes care of the general populace. Some of these rules, however, can prove to be anything but helpful to the public. An infamous example that everyone can draw upon is Article 13, which drew severe public backlash and criticism. Eight new supporters want to follow the code of conduct initiated by the EU Commission three years ago to combat disinformation and, for example, take stronger action against fake news about the coronavirus pandemic and vaccinations against Covid-19. The Brussels government institution announced this on Friday. The future signatories include the video platform Vimeo and the talk app Clubhouse. No forum for misleading content Previously, operators of large social networks and search engines such as Facebook, Google, Microsoft, TikTok and Twitter had signed the code. Audio social network Clubhouse, video sharing platform Vimeo and anti-ad fraud startup DoubleVerify are among a clutch of tech companies and organzations preparing to sign up to a beefed-up version of the European Union’s Code of Practice on Online Disinformation, the Commission said today. Back in May the EU’s executive said it would be strengthening the (still) voluntary code which is aimed at driving joined-up industry action to counter the spread of harmful disinformation online. It called on smaller digital services and adtech firms to sign up — saying it particularly wanted broader participation, not just the usual platform giants (some of whom were among the first group of signatories). Facebook, Google, Twitter and Mozilla were among the first clutch of tech platforms to sign up to the EU disinformation code back in 2018, while TikTok joined last summer. Eight newbies are said to be preparing to agree to the beefed-up code now. David is survived by Tennessee relatives, sister-in-law, Liz Blackburn, and families of her sons, Rick and Tim Blackburn.He moved to Eustis, Florida, at age 12 and graduated from Eustis High School in 1955. The Diamond is a clever, fascinating short documentary film made by filmmaker Caitlyn Greene. The film is about a place in Arkansas called the Crater of Diamonds State Park (find it on Google Maps) where anyone can freely search for and/or mine diamonds, as well as other rocks and minerals located in an ancient volcanic crater. Greene set out to make a film about people who go there and try to dig for them. She explains: "Some people find substantial diamonds, some don't, and either way, it takes a lot of digging in the dirt. I was immediately hooked." Adding that, "I was interested in the hope of treasure, the grittiness of searching, and what people there were actually looking for in their lives." Deep.
