A registered sex offender has been jailed for “riding roughshod” over a court order by contacting teenage girls on Snapchat.Steven Roberts, 21, breached a Sexual Harm Prevention Order nine times by having contact with girls aged between 13 and 15 on the popular social media platform.The order was made for five years by magistrates in August 2021 following concerns about his sexualised behaviour, though he was not convicted of an offence.One of the conditions was that Roberts was barred from contacting girls aged under 16 in any way.Roberts had contact with teenage girls on Snapchat.But Teesside Crown Court heard that Roberts’ police offender manager discovered he had been in contact with a 13 or 14 year-old girl during a routine check on January 31 this year.A look at his phone revealed eight further instances with other underage girls from November last year.Roberts, previously of Derwent Street, Hartlepool, had used an alias unknown to the police and deleted his internet history, also in breach of the order.He admitted the offences although Oliver Norman, mitigating, claimed the contact was not sexually motivated and Roberts had blocked the individuals.Judge Jonathan Carroll said he found that “extremely difficult” to accept on the face of

A 16-year-old student at Nature Coast Technical High School was taken into custody after the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office was notified of an online threat.The incident initially occurred around 10 p.m. April 26 when the student was communicating with another individual via Snapchat. During an online conversation, the student sent a message stating, “Imma shoot the (expletive) school up.” The threat was reported to the School Resource Officer at Nature Coast. Deputies were dispatched to the student’s Spring Hill home the morning of April 27. Upon making contact with the student, and with a parent present, the student admitted to sending the threat via Snapchat. The student was taken into custody on a charge of making a written threat to kill or injure, a felony. The student was transported to the Hernando County Detention Center where, after processing, the student was taken to the Juvenile Justice facility in Ocala. So far this school year, this is the seventh student arrest made on a charge of making threats to kill or injure. Humans hiding behind screens while communicating with each other has opened the door to many potential risks for upcoming generations.  You probably think the words you are reading right now are written by a human being. Are you sure? You open your Snapchat app, and at the top of the screen, you notice an update; pinned at the top of your chats is a Bitmoji titled: “My AI.” You click on it and realize it is formatted exactly like the rest of your chats with friends are. Curiosity takes over, and you type “hello” in the chat. Within seconds, an avatar pops up and says, “Hey, what’s good?” Alarmed by this immediate human-like response, you continue the conversation. After a few minutes, you find yourself getting advice from the AI.  You ask it, “Am I a good person?” Its response is, “Of course you are! JERICHO murder ‘victim’ Alex Innes exchanged a series of fraught Snapchat messages with his alleged killer almost two weeks before his death. The social media exchange with Greg ‘Gino’ Muinami was retrieved from 25-year-old Mr Innes’ phone following his alleged murder, jurors were told at Oxford Crown Court on Wednesday (May 17). Sent on the evening of November 1, they concerned a ‘bill’ – slang for £100 – that Muinami, 19, was said to have owed Mr Innes.
