Snapchat Messenger: Snap cuts 16 percent of jobs worldwide | heise online

US company Snap, operator of the messenger Snapchat, is cutting around 1000 jobs worldwide as well as at least 300 open positions. This is according to a filing with the US stock exchange regulator SEC and an internal letter from CEO Evan Spiegel to the staff. The US corporation expects productivity gains and long-term profitability from the use of artificial intelligence. By cutting 16 percent of its jobs, the company aims to save around 500 million US dollars per year. This is offset by one-time charges of 95 to 130 million US dollars for severance pay and transition payments. However, this step is not new: The company had already laid off about 500 employees in 2024. The most massive cut to date was a wave of layoffs from 2022, which affected even 20 percent of the staff at the time. More hoped-for productivity through AI In the internal letter, Snap CEO Spiegel primarily justifies the measure by rapid technological change. Advances in the field of AI allow many repetitive processes to be largely automated and development tasks to be completed much faster. The job cuts are to impact all areas of activity, such as development, design, marketing, and administration. Publicly

Crime Shrewsbury Snapchat pervert who hacked accounts and shared nudes is caught hijacking women's profiles again Repeat offender hacked victims’ Facebook, TikTok, email and clothes shopping accounts Published 17th Apr 2026, 06:00 BST A pervert who stole women’s nude pictures through Snapchat and “traded them like football cards” has been hacking accounts again. Adam Piggott, aged 36, targeted several women’s TikTok, Facebook and email accounts in August last year. He also found a way to get into their clothes shopping accounts with retailers including BooHoo and I Saw It First. Piggott, of Lime Street, Coleham, Shrewsbury, pleaded guilty at a remote Shrewsbury Crown Court hearing to 13 charges of causing a computer to perform a function to secure/enable unauthorised access to a program/data. Kevin Jones, mitigating, accepted that these offences put Piggott in breach of his suspended sentence and asked for the case to be adjourned for a pre-sentence report, and so it could be conducted in person, rather than over a video link. Judge Peter Barrie agreed to the suggestion, and told Piggott, who joined the hearing on video from Hewell prison in Worcestershire: “In light of your pleas, the next step is to decide how to deal with

Youth in custody after Snapchat threats toward Stettler school – Ponoka News

Published 11:06 am Thursday, April 16, 2026 A youth is in custody following threats made toward Stettler’s Wm. E. Hay Secondary Campus. At about 10:15 p.m. on April 15, RCMP officers received reports that a youth was sending threats to other students via Snapchat that they would shoot other students. An investigation was quickly begun, and officers obtained sufficient evidence to arrest a suspect. The youth has charges pending for uttering threats and will be taken before a justice of the peace to determine future court dates and release conditions. As the suspect is a youth, they can not be identified. The Stettler detachment does not believe there is an ongoing threat to students or staff, however out of an abundance of caution, the school resource officer and detachment officers are working with the school to ensure an ongoing police presence in the short term. “Clearview Public Schools was made aware of a potential threat involving Wm. E. Hay School late yesterday evening,” said Clearview Public Schools, via a release. “We have been advised that the individual involved is currently with the RCMP, and their investigation is ongoing. Based on the information available, the decision was made to keep the

The Berkeley angle | The Greek Theater | dailycal.org

I’m basically a child. And what do children love? Snapchat. While I wouldn’t say that I love Snapchat, I must confess that I do “snap.” Bless me, Father, for I have sinned. Sitting in a cafe, I get a notification from a person I was very close with in high school. For privacy, I’m going to make up a fake garbage school. Let’s call it the “San Diego State University.” Anyways, this guy and I have what I would call a Snapchat relationship — a dwindling one at that. So my friend who goes to the “San Diego State University” sent me a snap and I responded, not with a photo of my face — ew — but with the surroundings of this local underground cafe near campus — it’s called Caffe Strada, you have got to check it out. It was a quick photo, nothing to write home about, just of the people I’m sitting with. He opens the snap right away, and I see his dumb little Bitmoji pop up and down as he workshops a comment. He replies: “so berkley.” And knowing this man, this was not a compliment. I furrowed my brow, confused by what he
