Students at La Grange High School were told Wednesday to leave their backpacks, bags and purses at home until further notice, after a threat was made on the social media platform, Snapchat. La Grange ISD Superintendent William Wagner sent out a notice early Wednesday morning to inform parents of the threat, which was reported to police overnight. According to police, a comment in a group chat threatened gun violence at the high school. Police say the group chat had several members, and a suspect has not been determined. Wagner said while the threat does not seem credible, all threats are taken seriously. The case is currently under investigation by the La Grange Police Department, the Houston office of the FBI and La Grange ISD administration. The police department and the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office are providing additional security at school campuses for the remainder of the week. LikeLike Love Haha Wow Sad Angry

However, it wasn’t until December last year that the feature officially arrived — only on iOS at the time. And now, at long last, it’s finally making its way to Android. As spotted by several users on Reddit, the YouTube Music app for Android now lets you share songs to your Snapchat Stories. When you open the share sheet menu in YouTube Music, you’ll now see Snapchat as one of the share targets. Tapping on the Snapchat button generates a Story of the song you’re currently playing. The Story includes the song name, album art, artist name, and a link for viewers to open the song in YouTube Music. You can customize the story from the Snapchat editor and send it to your specific friends or “My Story.” It’s a small change but one that should have been part of the YouTube Music experience since day one. Unfortunately, Instagram integration is still not working, it seems, so you won’t be able to post YouTube Music tracks to your Instagram stories just yet. As reported…

Alucard Harris, 20, was arrested Saturday for online solicitation of a minor with intent for sexual contact, according to the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office. Authorities claim he communicated with the minor through Snapchat in his attempt to engage in illicit sexual activity. “BCSO Patrol Deputies were called to a home in far West Bexar County for an outcry of sexual assault involving a minor,” wrote the sheriff’s office. “Through the course of the investigation, the victim was able to identify the suspect via Snapchat, which the suspect used to communicate with the victim. Investigators would later learn that the suspect was an applicant with the BCSO.” Harris was set to start work as a temporary jailer for the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office on Monday. He certainly went there but not the way he originally planned. Deputies locked him up on a $100,000 bond. He remains at the jail on Monday, a staffer told Law&Crime. “Additionally, as result of this arrest and his current employment status, Harris’ conditional offer of…

That's why, as a safety precaution, Snap has temporarily disabled the "heatmap" feature for public posts in Ukraine. Typically, the Snap Map highlights places where there are tons of Snaps taken with a glowing red circle and spots where some posts were made with a blue circle. If you look at the feature in the app or on the web, you'll see that there are no longer indicators placed over Ukraine. Other tech companies had also disabled features that can show the movements of Ukrainians leaving the country, which is currently under attack from Russia. Google disabled live traffic data in Ukraine, including the live traffic layer for Maps, to protect the safety of locals. It also turned off user-submitted Maps placements after claims that they were being used by the Russian military to coordinate airstrikes. When it announced that it's halting all product sales in Russia, Apple said that it had disabled live traffic data in Ukraine, as well, to…
Read moreDetailsSnapchat is working to make Snap Map, the location-based feature to which people can submit photos and videos they want to make publicly available, safer for users in Ukraine."As a safety precaution we have temporarily disabled the Snap Map’s 'heatmap' of public Snaps in Ukraine," the company says. "We will continue to offer curated Stories comprised of Snaps submitted in Ukraine."Why remove the heatmap from Snap Map in Ukraine? Well, because the feature is used to indicate areas where Snapchat users are publicly sharing a lot of content, and Russia could use that information to determine potential targets during its ongoing invasion of the country. That's made all the more likely by the fact that Snap Map doesn't require a Snapchat account; the web version is freely available to anyone looking for publicly shared content. The only way to prevent that heatmap from being abused is to disable the feature entirely in Ukraine.Snap Map currently lists Stories for three cities—Kyiv, Kharkiv, and Lviv—in Ukraine. All three feature Snaps posted over a week ago, however, which suggests that Snapchat isn't highlighting more recent content at this time. Read moreDetailsTechnology March 5, 2022 snap has announced that it will temporarily disable Snapchat’s “heatmap” feature for Ukraine, which will stop the app from showing how many photos are taken in certain locations. The company says the move is “a security measure” and there will still be a curated public feed of snaps submitted by Ukrainians. Normally, the Snap Map displays a color code to show how many people are posting public images in an area. In practice, that means you get a good idea of where Snapchat users are concentrated. While this publicly available data usually doesn’t make sense (it’s no surprise that more people are posting from downtown Seattle than the nearby national forest), in a war scenario where Russia may want to monitor evacuations or civilian movements, it’s probably best that the function is disabled. Other companies have taken similar actions to make the movements of Ukrainians more difficult to track – Google has turned off live traffic information in Ukraine, as has Apple. Snap has also taken some additional actions in response to the Russian invasion of Ukraine. According to a news release from the company, it no longer displays ads in Russia, Belarus and Ukraine and…
