Opinion: If youth can figure out Uber and Snapchat, they can figure out how to vote
Regarding “Young people care about democracy — so take down barriers to our vote,” (July 28): This piece is a half-page devoted to excuses. My grandfather taught me a half century ago that people do the things they really want to do. Young people have no problem getting to the mall to shop, getting out at night to go to clubs and restaurants. They have ID to buy liquor. They know how to go online to get answers to their questions. They Uber. They Lyft. They communicate with text, emails, Snapchat. If they don’t vote it is because they don’t really want to do it. There are at least two weeks of early voting. I’ve seen people in the voting lines in walkers, carrying oxygen tanks, missing limbs. It’s sometimes hot. There is nothing particularly fun about voting. I’d rather go to the golf course. But I vote. It is a bit of a sacrifice of time and convenience. But it is what makes America great.
