Snapchat will let you pose your Bitmoji on your profile in 3D

Snap is introducing the ability to pose your Bitmoji avatar on your Snapchat profile in 3D, the company announced on Monday. For your 3D Bitmoji, you’ll be able to pick from more than 1,200 combinations of body poses, facial expressions, gestures, and backgrounds, according to Snap. You can get a look at some of the options available in the image at the top of this post and in the one below. It looks like there will be a lot of fun ways to pose your Bitmoji to represent you. Snap says the feature is rolling out on Monday, but I haven’t been able to access it on Snapchat myself just yet. Bitmoji avatars are very popular — Snap says that more than 200 million people use them daily — and this isn’t actually the first time they have gone 3D: Snap offers Snapchat lenses that project an animated and 3D version of your Bitmoji onto the world in augmented reality.

Geoff Johnson: What social-media apps are your kids using? A handy guide

If, as a parent of kids ages six to 16, you are not familiar with Instagram, TikTok, Snapchat, YoLo, Spotify or any of the other online or social-media sites your kids use, it may be time for a little research. Fortunately, some of that research has been done and is summarized in an online publication called Raising Digitally Responsible Youth: A Parent’s Guide. Easily found online and recommended by both the B.C. Parent Advisory Council and the Ministry of Education, the guide provides what you really need to know in 2021 to stay in the loop about the most popular online applications (apps) and trends. The goal of this parent guide is to introduce the major social-media platforms and games that are either already being used or have the potential to be used by our children. If there has always been something of a “generation gap,” online technology has the potential to widen that gap, especially when one of the generations has been raised in a world of online apps and social media and the other generation is still buying stamps and mailing letters, along with making the occasional tentative exploration into Facebook. A 2021 Pew Research Centre survey project reveals…

42% increase in engagement as FC Barcelona continues to lead the way on social media

FC Barcelona came very close to surpassing 2,000 million engagements on social networks in the 2020/21 season. The final figure was 1,960 million, meaning it was for the sixth year running the club with the most likes, shares and comments of its posts. The 42% increase on the 2019/20 season has consolidated its position at the forefront of a ranking in which its closest competitors are Manchester United (1,594 million), Liverpool (1,314), Real Madrid (1,129) and Chelsea (1,047). According to Blinkfire data, Barça has grown on each of the big three networks. The biggest figure overall is for Instagram, which produced 1,571 million engagements (34% more than last season). The club’s quick adaptation to new trends and content formats has helped here, whereby the club was the first in the world to get more than a billion views of its videos in the platform’s highly successful new reels format. On Twitter, Barça is also the number one sports club, where it has gone from 96 million engagements last season to 137 million in 2020/21. Fenerbahçe (120) and Chelsea (100) are the only other clubs to have hit six-figure numbers. But the most spectacular increase has been on Facebook, 123%, which…

What Is the Link Between Social Media Use and Youth Mental Health?

Source: Andrea Piacquadio/Pexels The utilization of social media such as TikTok, Instagram, Snapchat, and Facebook has increased dramatically in recent years. This has become especially intense among adolescents, teens, and young adults. Indeed, a recent study indicates that 80 percent of young people use social media on a daily basis, with almost 50 percent using it for over two hours per day. What is the impact of such heavy social media usage on the mental health of young people? This is a pressing question for psychiatric researchers, who have conducted rigorous studies on the topic. These studies produce consistent findings: Heavy utilization of social media is associated with poorer mental health. For example, a large-scale research study of young adults indicated that heavy social media users are almost three times more likely to be depressed than occasional users. Another study of young adults showed that recent Facebook use worsens "how people feel moment to moment and how satisfied they are with their lives." In Canada, researchers analyzed data from over 10,000 adolescents, finding that young people who use social media more than two hours per day are much more likely to rate their mental health as "fair" or "poor" compared…

Snapchat Just Terminated Jimmy Panos From The Platform

For those of you who follow @jimmypanos accounts on various social media networks you know about his stances politically. Snapchat apparently also knows though many question why? If you were on Panos’s mailing list you’d see that these updates were targeted to his followers and many times sent privately. So what are we saying? This could be the absolute proof we needed to confirm Big Tech is in fact spying on its users. When you search for Panos’s account it doesn’t even come up. It has been permanently banned from the platform. When you try to make a new account with the username it’s marked as unavailable. What caused this to happen? The last Snap from the account was about why Panos was not able to be vaccinated due to his recent cancer treatment through chemotherapy and that people in similar situations should consult their doctor first. Seems reasonable to me however to Snapchat this was flagged as disinformation and against their community guidelines. Panos was not the only one deplatformed. If you go to the recent reviews in the app stores there are dozens of people complaining about the same issue. If you go to their Twitter profile there…

Twitter to discontinue Fleets feature next month

ANI | Updated: Jul 15, 2021 01:17 IST Washington , July 15 (ANI): Twitter on Wednesday announced that it will discontinue its Fleets feature, the platform's own version of stories that disappear after 24 hours, on August 3.The announcement means the company will end the feature it rolled out last year to compete with the stories features available in Snapchat and Instagram, The Verge reported."We hoped Fleets would help more people feel comfortable joining the conversation on Twitter," Ilya Brown, Twitter's vice president of product, said in a statement. "But, in the time since we introduced Fleets to everyone, we haven't seen an increase in the number of new people joining the conversation with Fleets like we hoped." Twitter introduced Fleets in November 2020. The feature lets Twitter users post full-screen photos, videos, reactions to tweets or plain text that disappears after 24 hours. Fleets came years after Snapchat and Facebook introduced similar options for their users."Fleets are mostly used by people who are already Tweeting to amplify their own Tweets and talk directly with others," the company said. "We'll explore more ways to address what holds people back from participating on Twitter."The Verge reported that Twitter's decision to discontinue…
