Snapchat has shared some new insight into the rising hype around the coming NFL season, with the 2021 NFL draft set to be held later this week. The disruption of COVID-19 over the past year has left many sports fans yearning for an outlet, and a return to arena events, and with the vaccine effort now well underway, enthusiasm is rising as the season kick-off closes in.  In some ways, that makes the return of the NFL a symbolic marker, as it looks set to be the first major sports league to return to a close to normal season. There will still be impacts, and restrictions on attendance and the like will still be in place for some time. But it feels, in some ways, like a symbol of new hope, a sign that we will return to normalcy sometime soon. In any event, Snapchatters are clearly keen for its return, as these stats show, while Snapchat will also be hosting exclusive NFL content, including a new AR experience for the draft, which will feature all 32 NFL teams and music from Machine Gun Kelly. A Houston area 9th grade business teacher has been charged with having an “improper relationship” with a 15-year-old former student. Helen Page, 49, reportedly admitted the relationship to police and told them, “This was a huge mistake, and I didn’t mean to do it,” according to court documents seen by KTRK. Documents say the Aldine Independent School District launched an investigation last November and that a witness told investigators in January that Page told her about the relationship,, saying that the two were in love and that the student had told his parents. In a statement, Aldine ISD said that “the staff member was immediately removed from the school when the investigation began and resigned from the district on February 5, 2021.” “The district turned over the investigation to the Aldine Police Department and charges were filed,” the district said. “Aldine ISD does not condone nor tolerate any employee who engages in inappropriate behavior. An extremely concerning Snapchat group is now circulating among high school students in Traverse City and Traverse City Area Public Schools is aware of the group. TCAPS says the group is called “slave trade” and targets Black students in Traverse City. Parents of one of the victims tell us students are posting pictures of Black students and then giving them a price tag. Comments include “All Blacks should die” and “Let’s have another Holocaust.” “We are disheartened to hear this behavior and activity has occurred in our community, particularly at a moment when our nation continues to grapple with issues of diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging,” said Dr. John VanWagoner, superintendent of Traverse City Area Public Schools. “Our schools and school communities are committed to working tirelessly to provide safe learning environments for all students by prohibiting harassment due to an individual’s sexual orientation, gender identity, race, ethnicity, religion or disability.” In a statement, TCAPS said: TCAPS students appropriately reported the snapchat to school officials who immediately began an investigation into the matter. Snap has finally reaped the benefits of building a fully functional Android app. The company announced in its earnings report today that its user base mostly uses Android instead of iOS. That overall user base continues to grow, too. During the first quarter of 2021, Snapchat reached 280 million daily active users, an increase of 22 percent year over year. CEO Evan Spiegel called the moment Android users overtook iOS users a “critical milestone that reflects the long-term value of the investment we made to rebuild our Android application,” in his prepared remarks today. As a reminder, Snapchat originally launched only on iOS and released its first Android app in 2012. The team later spent over a year rebuilding the app to bring it up to par with its iOS counterpart. As the Android app languished, Snapchat bled Android users. It finally released the final version of that app in 2019, making the app more functional and accessible to global users. The company says its growth has also fueled it to invest in content abroad. Spiegel highlighted a Snap Original show the company launched in India in March, as well as its efforts to improve language support and feature localization.…

Snapchat's parent narrowed its first-quarter loss as daily active users rose 22% year-over-year to 280 million.Snap  (SNAP) - Get Report beat Wall Street's first-quarter expectations Thursday as the parent of the Snapchat photography-focused app reported a surge in active daily users.Shares of the Santa Monica, Calif., company at last check were 4% higher at $59.35.Snap reported a net loss of $287 million, or 19 cents a share, compared with a loss of $306 million, or 21 cents, in the year-earlier quarter. (Valley News Live) - Many on the social media app TikTok have been up in arms this week after some users claimed a group of six men recently created a video where they encouraged others to commit sexual assaults on April 24.However, TikTok has since stated there is no evidence of the alleged video.
