The victim said she had been communicating with Waterstradt via Snapchat, but believed he was a 17-year-old with a different name. They communicated for months, those conversations sexual in nature, from July until late October 2025.  Following a forensic interview with the victim, the complaint said detectives worked on warrants and identified accounts associated with Waterstradt. They determined the victim was not the only person to whom he had provided a false identity, and there were eight different Snapchat accounts in which he claimed to be 16 or 17 years old. Instagram and TikTok feeds are overflowing with old selfies, blurry phone pictures and aggressively filtered memories as users dig deep into their camera rolls to revisit who they were 10 years ago. The posts usually come with one familiar caption: “2026 is the new 2016.” From low-resolution iPhone clicks to puppy-dog Snapchat filters and Pokémon Go screenshots, the internet is reliving a year that now feels oddly distant and deeply comforting. Scroll for a few minutes and you are likely to see thickly carved eyebrows, flower crowns, and videos that look like they were filmed on a potato. It is nostalgia in lo-fi. The throwback wave has been massive. Since the year began, people have been sharing carousels and hazy clips from their digital archives, turning timelines into personal time capsules. A man in Memphis, Tennessee, has been arrested after he was accused of raping and kidnapping a 13-year-old girl that he met on Snapchat during an incident on Christmas Eve 2025. Breon Collins was arrested on Wednesday, January 14, and was charged with especially aggravated kidnapping, aggravated rape, evading arrest in an automobile and evading arrest, according to statement from the Memphis Police Department. Arrest records state that Memphis Police Department officers responded to a home in East Memphis on December 24, 2025, after receiving reports of a “suspicious vehicle,” according to Fox 13 Memphis. Upon their arrival, officers found two people unclothed in a car on North Fernway Road. The man was identified as Collins, 32, and it was quickly discovered that he had an outstanding warrant. After police asked for the girl’s information, Collins said that “they didn’t need her information,” per the affidavit. Collins was then ordered to get out of the car, though he drove off with the girl still in the vehicle. The girl was later found by investigators, and she told them that she had been messaging with someone she believed to be a juvenile on Snapchat. She went on to tell the officers

Under the party's plan, platforms that use addictive algorithmic feeds or host "inappropriate content" would be restricted to users over 16 years old, while sites with "graphic violence or pornography" would be rated 18-plus. This approach, the Lib Dems have argued, would "avoid the unintended consequences" of banning all under-16s from using social media, as advocated by the Conservatives. Brady Wilson (Courtesy photo) GRAND ISLAND – A Lincoln man who is a lifetime registered sexual offender is facing five felony charges after he communicated through social media with a 14-year-old girl and wanted to engage in sexual activity with her. Brady Wilson, 28, of Lincoln is charged with five counts of use of an electronic communication device to commit sexual assault. The charges are for incidents that occurred on Jan. 5, Jan. 6, Jan. 7, and Jan. 8. Wilson was previously convicted of first-degree sexual assault on June 13, 2019, in Buffalo County Court. County Court Judge Alfred Corey set Wilson’s bond at $250,000. His preliminary hearing will be at 2:30 p.m. Feb 2.
