Overparenting Examined in First Trailer for 'Chasing Childhood' Doc

by Alex Billington November 9, 2020Source: Vimeo "Where did all this fear come from?" Good question. An official trailer has debuted for a documentary titled Chasing Childhood, which is made by two veteran doc producers directing their first film. It's premiering at the DOC NYC Film Festival this month - hence the trailer arriving now. Chasing Childhood was filmed before the pandemic, but the issues explored are even more profoundly relevant today: what is the changing landscape of contemporary childhood and parenting? What is best for my kid? These questions transcend zip code and demographics. Chasing Childhood is a feature documentary that explores the rapidly changing landscape of contemporary childhood and parenting. Most importantly the film focuses on the importance of "free play" and the openness to let your kids be independent and run off on their own. I really love what she says at the end of this trailer: "All the worry in the world doesn't prevent death, it prevents life." Exactly. First trailer (+ poster) for Munzer Loeb & Wurmfeld's doc Chasing Childhood, on Vimeo (via Indiewire): In today's highly charged world of structure, stranger danger, helicopter parenting, free play in childhood has disappeared, giving way to unprecedented anxiety and depression. This phenomenon impacts kids from a range of socioeconomic backgrounds. Children's lives are consumed with wall-to-wall activities and constant monitoring-the overprotected, over-directed, over-pressured childhood is the new normal. This doc film takes us to schools in affluent Wilton, CT; working class Patchogue, NY; and metropolitan Manhattan. Throughout these different stories, a central question emerges: How can we eschew harmful parenting strategies and empower our kids to become their most fully realized, authentic selves? The film offers possible solutions as journalist Lenore Skenazy, evolutionary psychologist Peter Gray, former dean of freshmen at Stanford University Julie Lythcott-Haims, and leaders…

[Watch] Fly-Thru 'Amazon Studios Atlanta' Video Gets Published, Quickly Removed

Social media over the weekend was abuzz with the possibility of a new movie studio in Atlanta after an in-depth fly-through entitled “Amazon Studios, Atlanta” was published to Vimeo Friday. Onyx Creative, an architecture, engineering, urban design, interior design, and branding design firm with offices coast to coast, created and published the detailed renders.Sign up now to get our Daily Breaking News Alerts Opt out at anytimeCommercial real estate and urban planning enthusiast Chris Bender was first to spot the video, posting a link to Twitter prompting What Now Atlanta (WNA) to reach out to Onyx Creative’s Atlanta office. Javier Santos, the company’s managing architect for the southeast region, told WNA over the telephone that the video was a spec project for a developer as an idea for how a studio — or similar use — could be incorporated into an Atlanta site. Santos would not disclose the site or developer but said Amazon Studios was not involved in the video project. It’s not unusual for a developer to commission such a video as a marketing tool for prospecting tenants and potential uses for their land or property, but Bender isn’t buying Santos’ comments. “So they just used their free time to develop a fly thru architecture video for a mock Amazon Movie Studio, Atlanta and post to Vimeo with that label?,” Bender tweeted in response to a tweet from Bisnow Reporter Jarred Schenke who also spoke to Santos. “It’s just a what-if in general,” Santos told Schenke. “It’s an exercise in creativity.”Shortly after speaking with Santos, the video was removed from Vimeo. In anticipation that Onyx might take down the video or remove it from public view (it was likely published for public consumption in error), WNA saved a copy which is included below. Amazon over the weekend did…

Virtual Bridgwater Carnival to be held today

THE organisers of Bridgwater Carnival will be holding a virtual event tonight (November 7) on what would have been the start of the annual event. Organisers of the town's biggest event - which sees around 100,000 people line the streets each year - have come up with a way to hold the event virtually - and answer one of carnival's most enduring questions at the same time. That one question is simply, ‘what is the best entry ever to grace the streets of Bridgwater on carnival night’? A ‘best of the best’ virtual carnival will be premiered and streamed online from Bridgwater Guy Fawkes Carnival’s official website (https://live.bridgwatercarnival.org.uk/) at 6pm on Saturday, November 7. The two-hour film will celebrate the best entries to have taken part in Bridgwater Carnival between 1982 and 2019 – the years when the carnival has officially been filmed - and those featured have been specially selected by the entries and carnivalites themselves. Then, at the end of the virtual carnival broadcast, viewers and members of the public will be able to choose and vote on their own favourite ever entry in Bridgwater Carnival by downloading a special free app produced by SGS United Kingdom - Customs Services (Shepton Mallet) called ‘CarniApp’, which is readily available from the App Store or Google Play. The voting window will close on November 30. Dave Stokes, publicity director for Bridgwater Guy Fawkes Carnival, said: “Safety is always our number one priority, and as reported before, due to the ongoing Covd-19 pandemic and associated restrictions, an illuminated carnival in the style we have been accustomed to in Bridgwater was not possible this year. “So as a committee we looked at things we could safely do in order to continue the long-standing carnival tradition in Bridgwater in a very low key…

Search revenue was $145.2 million, down 22%, while “emerging and other” revenue was $127.4 million, up 82%, in part reflecting the company’s acquisition of Care.com, a website that provides referrals to home care workers. In a letter to shareholders, IAC CEO Joey Levin laid out the company’s thinking about spinning off Vimeo. “For several years now, we’ve espoused our belief that every business needs video to communicate, both internally and externally,” he writes in the letter. “The lockdowns not only accelerated that necessity by a few years, but…
