The fruit was first transported hundreds of miles to Central America from South America around 5,000 years ago, and the American researchers uncovered genetic traces of this ancient migration in the fruit’s DNA. They suggest some of these species could aid in supply chain diversification, and boost sustainable agriculture and commercial varieties of the healthfood fruit. The natural range of avocado trees extends from Mexico to Peru, but study leader archaeobotanist Kevin Wann says there is “a much wider breadth of avocado diversity that science had not yet documented.” “We could potentially tap into this genetic diversity to conserve commercial avocado plants that are vulnerable to disease.” Key to their discovery and to this evolutionary diversity was the human-caused migration of the fruit from south to north. Adobe has patched a series of vulnerabilities in its Acrobat Chrome extension that previously allowed any website to access conversations in WhatsApp Web without proper authentication, according to a report from cybersecurity firm Guardio shared with BleepingComputer. The vulnerabilities, collectively identified as CVE-2026-48294 and called HermeticReader, affect Adobe Acrobat Chrome extension versions 26.5.2.1 and earlier. Adobe addressed the issue in version 26.5.2.3, which is rolled out automatically, but Guardio advises users to verify that they are running the updated release. Exploitation of the flaw required only that a user with the extension installed visit a malicious webpage. Guardio reports no signs that the vulnerability has been actively exploited. How the Attack Worked and What Data Was Exposed The Adobe Acrobat extension uses an integration engine called Hermes to manage interactions with WhatsApp Web. Hermes remains inactive until a feature flag is enabled in the extension's internal storage. Once activated, it can open a PDF shared via WhatsApp and send commands to a tab running the messaging service, manipulating WhatsApp’s Document Object Model. Adobe patched CVE-2026-48294, a flaw in Adobe Acrobat Chrome extension that could let attackers steal WhatsApp Web chats by luring users to a webpage. Guardio Labs researcher Shaked Biner disclosed HermeticReader, a vulnerability chain in the Adobe Acrobat Chrome extension that allowed any attacker-controlled webpage to silently steal a visitor’s WhatsApp chats, contacts, profile name, and message previews in plain text. The extension sits on roughly 329 million browsers. No malware, no phished password, no compromised session cookie — just visiting the wrong page was enough. “Read the prerequisites list of this exploit chain and the discomfort sets in: no malware is installed, no password is phished, no session cookie is touched. There is no zero-day in WhatsApp.” reads the report published by Guardio Labs. “The attacker needs no Adobe account and no foothold on the machine. Only for the victim to visit a simple attacker-controlled static page.” The attack chains three separate flaws in the extension’s internal messaging system. None of them are dramatic on their own. Together they hand an attacker full DOM control over an open WhatsApp Web tab. People like, “I want to do something.” But I also heard that all of these crews have everything that they need and so, I was like, whoa, there’s a mix match here and I want to do something to be able to like channel resources,” said Emily Roose, one of six founders of the volunteer group. Egypt’s Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities has launched a development project at the Saqqara archaeological site to upgrade internal roads and enhance visitor services, reinforcing the destination’s standing as a world-class heritage location.  Announced on Saturday, 18 July, 2026, the initiative  is implemented by the Supreme Council of Antiquities (SCA) and targets improvements to strengthen the overall visitor experience while protecting the site’s historic and archaeological character. The project is designed to meet the growing demand from both Egyptian visitors and international tourists by improving infrastructure within the archaeological area. Tourism and Antiquities Minister Sherif Fathy described the initiative as part of Egypt’s broader vision for developing archaeological sites through an integrated approach that balances conservation with modern infrastructure and visitor facilities.  SCA Secretary-General Hisham El-Leithy said the project includes upgrading the internal road network inside the archaeological zone to facilitate movement between different monuments.  He stressed that all development activities are being carried out according to internationally recognized engineering and conservation standards and that the enhancements are expected to provide a safer, more convenient environment for visitors, including organized tourist groups.
