WhatsApp Launches Communities to Maximize Topic-Based Discovery and Engagement

After announcing its coming group chat upgrade back in April, WhatsApp has today launched its new ‘Communities’ update, which provides additional functionality for your group chats in the app. Welcome to Communities ????Now admins can bring related groups together in one place to keep conversations organized.Organized. Meta announces WhatsApp Communities, 32-person video calling, polls and more

Meta Founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg on Thursday announced 'Communities on WhatsApp' along with several new features like 32-person video calling, in-chat polls and groups with up to 1,024 users which will be helpful for groups along with Communities. Zuckerberg announced that 'Communities on WhatsApp' will start rolling out to users globally and will be available to everyone over the next few months. "Today we're launching Communities on WhatsApp. It makes groups better by enabling sub-groups, multiple threads, announcement channels, and more. We're also rolling out polls and 32 person video calling too. All secured by end to end encryption so your messages stay private," said the Meta CEO. NEW DELHI, Nov 1: Instant messaging firm WhatsApp banned 26.85 lakh accounts in India in September, including 8.72 lakh accounts which were barred proactively before being flagged by users, the company said on Tuesday. The number of accounts blocked in September were 15 per cent more than the 23.28 lakh accounts the messaging platform banned in August. “Between 1 September, 2022 and 30 September, 2022, 2,685,000 WhatsApp accounts were banned. 872,000 of these accounts were proactively banned, before any reports from users. An Indian account is identified via a +91 phone number,” Whatsapp said in its ‘User Safety Report’ for the month of September. The tougher IT rules, which came into effect last year, mandate large digital platforms (with over 50 lakh users) to publish compliance reports every month, mentioning the details of complaints received and action taken. Covid inquiry demands to see Boris Johnson's WhatsApp messages – The Telegraph

The Covid-19 Inquiry has requested details of a No 10 WhatsApp group to be submitted as formal evidence. Thousands of documents have been requested to inform the inquiry, including from the Cabinet Office, it was revealed on Monday. The first preliminary hearing for Module 2 of the inquiry, which will examine political decision-making in Westminster during the pandemic, heard the list of core participants, which includes NHS England, the Health Secretary, and the Cabinet Office. Opening the hearing, Hugo Keith KC, counsel for the inquiry, also detailed the organisations and individuals which had been issued a Rule 9 request to submit evidence.  Rule 9 of the 2006 Inquiry Rules gives the inquiry powers to send written requests for evidence. If a person fails to comply they can be issued a Section 21 notice, which compels the recipient to hand over the materials.
