Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp appear to be down with thousands of users reporting issues. According to Twitter users, the sites are unresponsive and people cannot get access. Google searches for 'Facebook down' have skyrocket since 8.40pm this evening. The website DownDetector, which people use to report when a site is down, has had over 16,000 reports about Facebook in the past half hour. Instagram has also received 10,000 reports from people having issues with the app. Tech company Meta owns both the sites. People have jokingly suggested that Elon Musk should buy Meta - the company the behind the three brands - after he sealed a $44billion (£37.9 billion) purchase of rival site Twitter. When looking to end employment, an employer must hold a hearing. The hearing process, its administration, employer duties and so on, are not statutory. They are the result of labor court decisions. If you were trying to send messages via WhatsApp and they weren't going through, you weren't alone. The messaging app went down early Tuesday for many users around the world for at least 30 minutes. Based on information from Downdetector — and from Engadget editors' reports — the service wasn't working in several regions, including the US, Canada, parts of Europe like the UK and Italy, and Asian countries that include India, Malaysia, Japan and the Philippines. WhatsApp users either couldn't connect to the service at all or their messages got stuck with the loading wheel and weren't being delivered. Popular messaging app WhatsApp will be introducing Bitmoji-style avatars after Instagram, letting users customize their digital selves. The messenger app is expected to roll out support for customizable avatars in their upcoming update 2.22.23.9 beta on Android for selected users. Users will expect to see a new 'Avatar' category in Settings that they can customize into a digital version of themselves. The app will then generate sticker packs with their avatar in various poses and expressions, for a more exciting messaging experience with friends and family. WABetaInfo first spotted was the first to spot the feature last month but it is now being rolled out to WhatsApp users officially. Meta hasn't clarified when it intends to release the feature for everyone on Android and all iOS users. Avatars were first introduced in 2019 in Messenger and News Feed and were then available for use in Facebook comments and Stories in 2020. Meta has now made the avatars into a 3D visual and has allowed their users to apply them from feed posts, and Facebook profile pictures, to Instagram Stories.

As is well known, WhatsApp belongs to Facebook or Meta and that means that the two platforms are also getting closer and closer. This currently means that Messenger is getting a feature that has been around on the social network for a long time, namely (reaction) avatars. WhatsApp is and will remain the most widespread messenger in the western world, and the interest in new functions is correspondingly high. As always, you can get the first glimpse of them on the WABetaInfo page, where you can discover another new function: the avatars. This allows reactions to be personalized and the first testers can now try this out with the beta version number 2.22.23.9. The whole thing works in a similar way to Facebook: First, you configure your avatar, which usually looks or can look like your own likeness, and the software creates a set of stickers based on this graphic representation. Sticker set with Avatars Inspired by emoji-like symbolism, these stickers can be shared with friends and family via chat messages. You can also set up these pictures as profile photos.
