WhatsApp update 26.14.76 introduces “Liquid Glass,” a visual language based on transparencies and depth layers. The redesign, inspired by iOS 26 aesthetic guidelines, seeks to reduce visual fatigue with translucent elements and a floating tab bar. The rollout remains gradual, and only users with the latest version from the App Store can verify if their account has been enabled for this change. WhatsApp began the global rollout of its most ambitious visual transformation to date, Liquid Glass. This new design concept represents more than just a color change; it is a complete reengineering of how we perceive the interface, utilizing “frosted glass” effects and three-dimensional depths that make the application feel lighter and more modern than ever. Loading video... Loading Video What is Liquid Glass and why does it change the rules? The Liquid Glass design is rooted in transparency. Unlike the flat interfaces of the past, this new style allows background content to filter subtly through the top layers. According to technical reports for version 26.14.76, the app achieves this by using real-time Gaussian blurs on the tab bar, contextual menus and buttons. The primary goal is cohesion; by adapting dynamically to both light and dark modes, WhatsApp makes

Challenging a 50-year-old narrative about Hawaii’s native birds, a new study from the University of Hawaii at Mānoa found no scientific evidence that indigenous people hunted waterbird species to extinction. Published in the journal Ecosphere, the research debunks this long-held myth and offers a new, integrated theory to explain the disappearances. It’s not the first time that modern science has put forward new explanations for dramatic island declines, ones often attributed to native peoples. Indeed in 2024, GNN reported that scientists at the University of Copenhagen had brought to bear genetic testing to prove that the natives of Easter Island did not, in fact, chop down all the trees on their island to build their giant stone heads, leading to a population collapse. In this new instance, the U of H authors suggest a new theory: the native Hawaiian birds died out because of a combination of climate change, invasive species, and changes in how the land was used—most of which happened either prior to Polynesian arrival, or after Europeans took over ownership of wild areas. The study also noted that now-endangered waterbirds

Private and business messages are to be more distinctly separated. Cluttered Chat Lists in Daily Life Many users open WhatsApp several times a day. Private conversations mix with messages from companies, delivery services, or support channels, quickly creating a long and chaotic list. The messenger aims to address this problem and bring more order. Automatic Relocation of Business Chats According to a report by “WABetaInfo,” WhatsApp is testing a feature that automatically moves business chats out of the main view. Users can activate this feature via a toggle in the settings. When the option is enabled, relevant messages are moved to a separate area after 24 hours. This keeps the main view more focused on private chats. New Overview Instead of Classic Chat List Exactly how this new area will look is not yet determined. It is likely to be an additional list similar to archived chats. The sorting happens automatically in the background. Users do not need to move conversations manually. However, the chats remain accessible and can be opened at any time. Test Run in Android

WhatsApp Liquid Glass redesign inspired by Apple’s latest iOS The WhatsApp Liquid Glass redesign draws directly from Apple’s Liquid Glass visual language introduced with iOS 26, using translucency, depth and subtle reflections across the app. The update is arriving via the WhatsApp for iOS 26.14.76 release on the App Store, which has been flagged as the compatible build for the new UI. Once installed, the most obvious sign of the WhatsApp Liquid Glass redesign is the bottom tab bar, which now appears to float slightly above the interface rather than sitting as a solid block. A semi‑transparent, frosted finish lets background content faintly show through, creating a stronger sense of depth when switching between Chats, Updates and Calls. New glass-like buttons, menus and keyboard Beyond the navigation bar, the WhatsApp Liquid Glass redesign extends to interactive elements such as buttons and context menus, which now adopt a soft, frosted glass style with layered transparency. These controls respond with smoother, more fluid animations, making taps and gestures feel a little more responsive and

(NASDAQ:META) is facing rising regulatory pressure in Europe after the European Commission signaled it could impose interim measures targeting the company's policies tied to WhatsApp. In a supplementary statement of objections issued Wednesday, the regulator said it intends to act to prevent what it described as serious and irreparable harm to competition, subject to Meta's response and rights of defense. The concern centers on policy changes that complainants argue may limit rival AI providers from offering business services through WhatsApp, potentially reshaping how AI tools are distributed across one of the world's largest messaging platforms. The development could carry implications for Meta's WhatsApp Business model in the region, where monetization is linked to paid access for enterprises. A company spokesperson pushed back, suggesting the Commission's approach may enable large AI companies, including OpenAI, to use the paid product without covering the associated costs. Meta indicated that this dynamic could shift the financial burden toward smaller businesses

The commission, which is the 27-nation bloc's executive arm and top antitrust enforcer, opened the investigation last year over concerns that WhatsApp was blocking competing artificial intelligence companies from offering their AI assistants on the platform. Officials said Meta's decision in March to start charging third-party AI providers for access was essentially equivalent to the ban it had in place. “Replacing the legal ban with pricing that has a similar effect does not change our preliminary view that Meta’s conduct appears to be an abuse of its dominant position, that may seriously harm competition on the market for AI assistants,” Teresa Ribera, the commission’s executive vice president overseeing competition, said in a statement. When Brussels opened its investigation in December, officials said they were scrutinizing new terms and conditions that blocked providers of AI chatbots from using a tool to communicate with

The messaging platform has announced a new partnership with Arsenal Football Club, aiming to bring fans closer to the club through the very place they already spend time: group chats. The collaboration kicks off with the launch of a new documentary titled “It’s Official,” premiering across Arsenal and WhatsApp’s owned channels, including YouTube, Instagram, and in-app experiences. The film focuses on what it really means to be a supporter, capturing everything from pre-match anticipation to post-game conversations that continue long after the final whistle. But the real play isn’t just content. It’s behavior. From content consumption to conversation Beyond the documentary, fans will gain access to exclusive digital experiences via WhatsApp’s official Arsenal Channel, alongside activations on Facebook and opportunities tied to real-world moments, including events at Emirates Stadium and matchday access. What WhatsApp is really building here is not another content destination, but a conversation layer around fandom. Football has always lived in group chats. The commentary, the debates, the memes, the emotional highs and lows, it’s all already happening there. WhatsApp isn’t trying to pull fans somewhere new. It’s formalizing what already exists and plugging the club directly into

The most notable change is the introduction of a username feature, allowing users to chat without sharing their phone numbers. Until now, a phone number was mandatory to send messages, but the new update will enable users to connect using unique usernames, similar to features already available on Telegram and Signal. This is expected to significantly enhance privacy, especially for users reluctant to share personal contact details with strangers. The update also expands WhatsApp’s disappearing content options. While the platform previously allowed “view once” images and videos, it will now extend this feature to regular text messages. Messages sent using this option will automatically disappear after being read, offering greater control over conversations that users do not want permanently stored. However, the rollout comes amid ongoing criticism over data security. Despite WhatsApp’s claims of end-to-end encryption, concerns persist about message backups stored on cloud services by companies like Google and Apple. Pavel Durov has claimed that nearly 95% of WhatsApp messages stored in the cloud lack encryption, raising
