The Metropolitan Police has warned that more officers could expect to face justice following a “despicable” case in which colleagues shared misogynistic and racist comments with Wayne Couzens. The judge said the officers involved saw the WhatsApp group they shared with the man convicted for the abduction, rape and murder of Sarah Everard - where they mocked those with disabilities, domestic violence victims and Muslims - as a “safe space”. Commander John Savell described the officers’ behaviour as “despicable” and condemned them for sending the “repulsive” messages. “It is staggering that they regard this language as defensible,” he added. He said the force expects the “highest standards of conduct” from officers and that leaders are “determined to rid this organisation of those who corrupt its integrity”.
