According to the report, this provision is there in the draft as the government wants to tackle the online identity problem. “This will help prevent cyber fraud committed using telecommunications services. As a result, identity provisions were included in the bill where relevant,” the Ministry of Communications said in the bill. The report also highlighted and mentioned that Section 4, sub-section 7 clearly states that telecom users are needed to declare their real identity or else it will be a cognisable offence and police can clearly arrest the violator without a warrant. The Narendra Modi government has issued an advisory to WhatsApp users, warning of multiple vulnerabilities in the instant messaging platform. The Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-IN), a nodal agency under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, has warned of vulnerabilities in WhatsApp for Android and iOS prior to v2.22.16.12, WhatsApp Business for Android and iOS prior to v2.22.16.12, WhatsApp for Android prior to v2.22.16.12 and WhatsApp for iOS for v2.22.15.9.The CERT-in advisory has warned of multiple vulnerabilities in WhatsApp which could help a remote attacker to execute an arbitrary code on the targeted system. According to the Centre's advisory, the vulnerability exists in WhatsApp due to integer overflow. “A remote attacker could exploit this vulnerability to execute remote code in an established video call.”WhatsApp also stated the same in its latest security advisory, saying, “An integer overflow in WhatsApp for Android prior to v2.22.16.12, Business for Android prior to v2.22.16.12, iOS prior to v2.22.16.12, Business for iOS prior to v2.22.16.12 could result in remote code execution in an established video call”. SINGAPORE — WhatsApp has released an update to address security flaws that could allow attackers to gain complete control of a targeted user's mobile application, the Singapore Computer Emergency Response Team (SingCert) said in a statement on Wednesday (Sept 28).  The government cybersecurity response team urged WhatsApp users to download the latest versions "immediately", though it added that there are so far no reports of active exploitation of the remote code execution vulnerabilities.  The first vulnerability affects the Video Call Handler component. An attacker can exploit this during a video call with a targeted user to take complete control of their WhatsApp app, SingCert explained.  The second vulnerability affects the Video File Handler component by sending a specially crafted video file to targeted users and convincing them to play it.
