Union Bank of India has tapped Infosys Finacle to launch its banking services on WhatsApp messaging platform. Union Bank of India implemented Finacle Conversational Banking, Finacle Remote Banker, and Finacle Mobile Teller solutions. The new service from the bank, called Union Virtual Connect (UVConn), will give its retail customers personalized, daily banking services, at their preferred time, place, and in seven languages initially. Union Bank of India has also used Finacle for the transformation of its branch banking experience, by optimizing branch and teller performance, minimizing queues, enabling relationship manager mobility, and improving operational efficiencies. Finacle Conversational Banking and Remote Banker’s capabilities include – text, voice, or video messaging, along with sharing images, documents, and other content Union Bank will be able to onboard new customers remotely and instantly, via secure messaging on WhatsApp in a quick, frictionless, and digitized manner.

WhatsApp users on Android will not be able to have an unlimited backup option on Google Drive soon. As per a report by WhatsApp beta tracker WABetaInfo, Google Drive might put a limit to the free storage space that it offers to Android users for storing their WhatsApp chat backups. A screenshot shared by WABetaInfo shows the strings that indicate notifications for informing users when Google Drive is almost full and is reaching the given quota. WhatsApp chats for iOS users are backed up on iCloud, which provides a limited 5GB of free storage space. On the other hand, Google Drive, where chat backups of WhatsApp`s Android app users are stored, has offered unlimited storage space. It is suggested that Google will still offer a certain storage quota for WhatsApp backups. However, it will now be a part of a limited plan. Meta, formerly known as Facebook, has announced its first-ever US marketing push for one of the company’s social media and instant messaging apps, WhatsApp. The first TV ad aired in late January 2022 and the Meta’s intend is to make the instant messaging app as popular in the US as it is in Europe.WhatsApp already counts for over 2 billion users worldwide, which already makes it popular but not in the US. The goal of the marketing push in the US is to highlight the app’s security by encrypting text messages sent and received, as opposed to other texting methods, including SMS. According to a 2019 study by CTIA, SMS remains the default texting method used for Android phones in the US, which doesn’t benefit from end-to-end encryption. And, while Google is pushing for the adoption of an upgrade to SMS that adds features like encryption, Apple didn’t show interest in an RCS compatibility to its iMessage.  With WhatsApp being available on both iOS and Android smart devices, it could become a selling point to those looking for additional privacy and security when texting online.
