Liv’ED It is an ED original style where we write about our personal experiences on experiencing and reviewing any app/place/website which gives us a feeling of coming back for more. After a few weeks of announcing a new feature of ‘disappearing messages’, WhatsApp has finally rolled out the feature for its Indian users. The messaging app will now allow users to switch on and off the feature of having unread chats disappear after a period of seven days. The users were informed about this feature at the beginning of this month. Now that it’s available, we took the chance to explore it! How To Enable The Option? You can send messages that disappear on WhatsApp by enabling disappearing messages. Once enabled, new messages sent in the individual or group chat will disappear after seven days. The most recent selection controls all messages in the chat. This setting won’t affect messages you previously sent or received in the chat.  In an individual chat, either user can turn disappearing messages on or off. In a group chat, only group admins can turn disappearing messages on or off. However, to enable the feature of ‘disappearing messages’ in WhatsApp, make sure you have updated…

Nigerian court hears blasphemy conviction appeals in northern city Kano

KANO, Nigeria (Reuters) - Two judges in northern Nigeria on Thursday heard the first appeals against Islamic law blasphemy convictions that caused global outrage when a man was sentenced to death over a WhatsApp message and a 13-year-old received a 10-year jail term. The judges, at the appeals section of the secular high court in the city of Kano, said verdicts would be delivered at a later date.In August, a Kano sharia court sentenced Yahaya Aminu Sharif to death for allegedly sharing a blasphemous message on WhatsApp and Omar Farouq, accused of making blasphemous comments in an argument, received a prison sentence. The convictions were condemned by rights groups, the United Nations and the head of Poland’s Auschwitz Memorial who said he and others would volunteer to each serve a month of the boy’s prison sentence. They also sparked a debate about sharia’s compatibility with Nigeria’s secular constitution.Nigeria is roughly evenly split between a predominantly Muslim north and mainly Christian south. Sharia, or Islamic religious law is applied in 12 of Nigeria’s 36 states where sharia courts operate alongside secular ones. The charges prompted anger in Kano, the north’s commercial hub, and protesters burned down Sharif’s family home in March.Kola Alapinni, a defence…

And yet, many are falling prey to the tricks played by hackers and lose hard-earned money or sensitive information. Now, in the latest instant, WhatsApp users are getting hoodwinked by bad actors. The modus operandi is the same. They pose as friends or a desperate fellow citizen, who accidentally sent a 6-digit OTP code to the wrong phone number (yours). DO NOT FALL FOR THESE ACTS.If not, they will take over the WhatsApp account on the web and access your contacts' phone numbers and also photos, financial details if shared on the messenger app with a loved person. And, this will lead to a vicious cycle, as the bad actor will take note of the contact details and play the same trick on your friends and family members. Red alert: major WhatsApp hack going around. Hancock's former neighbour won Covid test kit work after WhatsApp message

An acquaintance and former neighbour of Matt Hancock is supplying the government with tens of millions of vials for NHS Covid-19 tests despite having had no previous experience of producing medical supplies. Alex Bourne, who used to run a pub close to Hancock’s former constituency home in Suffolk, said he initially offered his services to the UK health secretary several months ago by sending him a personal WhatsApp message. Bourne’s company, Hinpack, was at that time producing plastic cups and takeaway boxes for the catering industry. It is now supplying about 2m medical grade vials a week to the government via a distributor contracted by the NHS. Bourne categorically denies he profited from his personal contact with Hancock. However, the case raises questions for the health secretary and is likely to reignite the row over alleged government cronyism during the pandemic. Contacted last week by the Guardian, Bourne’s lawyers flatly denied that their client had any discussions with Hancock in relation to Covid-19 supplies. However, on Monday, after being confronted with further details about his interactions with the health secretary, Bourne backtracked. In a phone call with the Guardian, he conceded that he has in fact exchanged text and email…

Child porn video sent in Whatsapp group a 'moment of stupidity'

A salesman shared child pornography with a WhatsApp group of co-workers who were "trying to outdo each other" with shock humour and videos, a court heard. hane Carberry (28) re-posted the sick clip without watching the whole thing in a "moment of stupidity" that he instantly regretted, a court heard. Dublin District Court heard the single video featured young boys with a woman. Judge Bryan Smyth struck the case out, sparing Carberry a criminal record after he paid €2,000 to a children's charity. The judge said it would be disproportionate to criminalise the accused for a "momentary lapse of judgement", after hearing Carberry was seeking work as a language teacher. Carberry, of Howth Road, Killester, pleaded guilty to possession of child pornography at a premises in East Wall Road on January 17 last year. A further charge of distribution of child pornography was withdrawn by the prosecution. Detective Garda Emma Ryan said the accused sent a video message by WhatsApp to a group with three other people. The video contained images of two boys under the age of 10 engaged in sexual conduct with a female adult, the court heard. When it was investigated, the accused went to a garda…
