Dublin District Court heard the single video featured young boys with a woman. Judge Bryan Smyth struck the case out, sparing Carberry a criminal record after he paid €2,000 to a children's charity. The judge said it would be disproportionate to criminalise the accused for a "momentary lapse of judgement", after hearing Carberry was seeking work as a language teacher. Carberry, of Howth Road, Killester, pleaded guilty to possession of child pornography at a premises in East Wall Road on January 17 last year. A further charge of distribution of child pornography was withdrawn by the prosecution. Detective Garda Emma Ryan said the accused sent a video message by WhatsApp to a group with three other people. This was a marked increase from the same period last year — where only 83 cases were reported — with the SPF warning they have observed the "re-emergence" of such scams. In addition, the total amount cheated also increased to S$2.8 million, from at least S$726,000 in the first half of 2019. According to a news release, such cons typically involved the scammers impersonating the victim's friends using compromised or spoofed WhatsApp, Facebook, or Instagram accounts. They would then trick the victim into disclosing their credit card information and one-time password (OTP). Recent Qoo10 impersonation scams More recently, the SPF said, victims have received fake Qoo10 campaign messages from their friends over WhatsApp, purporting that they had won a lucky draw. The messages then led victims to fake Qoo10 websites requesting their personal details like mobile numbers, internet banking details, and OTP. These were obtained under the pretext of being a requirement for the victims to claim their prize. However, victims later discovered that unauthorised fraudulent transactions had been made on their credit cards and bank accounts without…

Read moreDetailsHere is how you can clear unwanted files from your device and efficiently manage your storage.BusinessToday.In | November 21, 2020 | Updated 11:38 IST WhatsApp keeps on rolling out new features every now and then to keep its users updated. But one thing that has remained a problem for the majority of users is the portion of phone storage taken up by the files received via the messaging application. Given that WhatsApp is a widely popular messaging app used to share everything from photos to videos and even documents, the amount of data exchanged on a daily basis through the platform is substantial. Multimedia files like photos, videos and audios alone capture a lot of storage and occupy most space in your phone device. Not clearing these files tends to take a toll on your phone's storage, and in turn, its performance. Whenever the storage of your phone gets full, the device starts lagging. You may have also seen constant pop-ups like 'WhatsApp has stopped working' with the app crashing in the background. So, here is how you can clear unwanted files from your device and efficiently manage your storage. Use 'Manage storage' feature on WhatsAppMost common error that users make is that instead of deleting files from the WhatsApp folder, they delete it from their camera roll only. Which is why most of us don't fully get rid of unwanted files from our device. When you delete pictures from your device, that doesn't necessarily mean that the pictures you sent or received via WhatsApp are gone as well. So it is always advisable to delete pictures from WhatsApp itself. In order to get rid of those files from your app, follow these simple steps. Navigate to settings (found in the menu represented by three dots in the top right…
