Redazione RHC : 9 November 2025 09:19 Researchers at Palo Alto Networks Unit 42 have discovered a new, previously unknown family of Android spyware called LANDFALL . To spread it, malicious actors exploited a zero-day vulnerability (CVE-2025-21042) in the Android image processing library built into Samsung devices. This flaw is not an isolated case, but rather part of a recurring pattern of similar vulnerabilities found in various mobile platforms. CVE-2025-21042 was actively exploited in real-world (in-the-wild) attacks before its fix, released by Samsung in April 2025 , following initial reports of compromise. However, neither the exploit nor the associated commercial spyware had previously been analyzed or publicly documented . LANDFALL was distributed via malicious image files in DNG format , presumably sent via WhatsApp . The technique used closely resembles an exploit chain that involved Apple and WhatsApp in August 2025 , as well as a second campaign observed in September, linked to the CVE-2025-21043 vulnerability. It is important to note that no previously unknown vulnerabilities in WhatsApp were identified during the investigation. A crucial aspect is that the LANDFALL campaign was active as early as mid-2024 , months before the other vulnerabilities were publicly disclosed . The spyware exploited the Android/Samsung

Social media giant Meta is about to start reading users’ conversations, including direct messages (DMs) and chats with its AI, with no option to opt out other than not to use their platforms – which include Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp, which provides no option to turn its AI off. This data access will start in most of the world from 16 December though in the EU and UK, which have stricter data protection laws, it will start later – apparently from 4 March next year. PC World Magazine reported: The initiative will begin starting December 16th, 2025, initially outside the EU and UK where stricter data protection laws will force a later introduction. Signs of the feature first appeared way back in May 2023, though progress has been slow. The company confirmed its intention to add username support in October last year. But there has been radio silence since then. Now, Meta has emailed businesses to prepare them for the upcoming username feature. Meta's email notes that username support in WhatsApp will help further bolster privacy by allowing users and businesses to show their username instead of phone number in individual and group chats. For businesses, they can switch to a username to further build their brand name instead of relying on a phone number. It will also make it easier for customers to directly connect with brands on the messaging platform. Meta feels this change will help improve business interactions, as they have "heard that people feel more confident engaging with businesses when their personal information stays private." Through the app, users can manage their chats without needing to reach for their iPhones. The app will provide call notifications, enabling users to see who is calling directly from their wrist. Users can also read full WhatsApp messages, even lengthy ones, on their Apple Watch. Additionally, the app supports recording and sending voice messages, as well as sending quick emoji reactions to incoming messages. WhatsApp claims the media experience has been improved, with clear images and stickers now visible on the watch. Users can also view more of their chat history on screen. WhatsApp assures users that personal messages and calls remain private with end-to-end encryption.
