After nearly 10 years in custody, Belgian authorities have officially returned an ancient wooden sarcophagus to Egypt. The artifact, dating back to the Ptolemaic period (4th–3rd century BCE), was handed over to Egypt’s ambassador, H.E. Ahmed Abu Zeid, in Brussels during a formal ceremony attended by officials from the Belgian Public Prosecutor’s Office on Friday 11 July. The sarcophagus was originally seized in 2015 after Interpol issued a notice at the request of the Egyptian judiciary. It had been kept at the Royal Museums of Art and History in Brussels during the course of the investigation. Also returned was a wooden artifact believed to represent a ceremonial beard, typically associated with pharaonic iconography. The most prominent piece is an anthropomorphic wooden sarcophagus. Adorned with a golden face and bluish hair, symbols of divine transformation, the coffin was intended to house a mummified elite male who was symbolically deified as Osiris, god of the underworld. Hieroglyphic inscriptions on the coffin identified the deceased as Pa-di-Hor-pa-khered, which translates to “He who was given by Harpokrates,” confirming his elevated status in ancient Egyptian society. Inspector Bode Emoruwa and six other Nigerian police officers are being detained by the police for raising concerns about police welfare. The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, has directed punitive action against officers detained over their alleged involvement in the planned protest against poor salaries, welfare and the controversial police pension scheme, SaharaReporters has learnt According to reliable sources who spoke Friday evening, the IGP has ordered that Emoruwa Olabode and five other officers, identified as administrators of a WhatsApp group used to mobilise officers should be demoted. Co-founder of Twitter and current CEO of Block, Jack Dorsey, has started a new messaging app that works without the internet, mobile networks, or even user accounts. Called Bitchat, the app allows people to send messages to each other directly using Bluetooth, making it a potential rival to popular services like WhatsApp, especially in areas with limited connectivity or internet censorship. Dorsey launched the app over the weekend, and it’s now available in beta through Apple’s TestFlight platform. According to a technical white paper published on GitHub, Bitchat uses Bluetooth mesh networking. This means that nearby phones, in effect, become a direct local network to send and forward messages. The application works even if users aren’t connected to Wi-Fi or cellular data. This allows messages to travel from phone to phone, hopping between users in the area. The messages are fully encrypted, disappear by default, and are stored only on users’ devices, not on any server. There are no phone numbers, usernames, or emails involved, factors 0which significantly enhance user privacy. Dorsey said the app is an experiment in privacy-focused, decentralized communication. Germany’s financial regulator, BaFin, has issued a public warning against Axionto, a company allegedly promoting unlicensed investment services through WhatsApp. The firm is reportedly targeting German investors with financial recommendations shared in private chats and group messages. Suspicious Claims and Missing Company Details The investment tips circulating in these WhatsApp groups are allegedly attributed to “Professor Lorenzo Riccardi.” However, BaFin said there is no information confirming the identity or existence of such a person. "According to the information available to BaFin, Axionto is using WhatsApp groups and chats to contact German investors. The company recommends investing in particular financial instruments," the regulator wrote. "The recommendations posted in the WhatsApp groups are allegedly made by Professor Lorenzo Riccardi. BaFin is not aware of the existence of such a person." Further raising concerns, Axionto’s website, axionto.com, provides no legal notice, company structure, or registered business address. Coin World Wednesday, Jul 9, 2025 4:33 pm ET 1min read An Indian civil contractor, Ramesh, was duped into losing approximately $200,000 in a romance crypto scam orchestrated through WhatsApp. The scammer, posing as a potential bride named Priyanka, initially connected with Ramesh through a matrimonial website and began conversations on WhatsApp starting April 11. The scammer claimed to work for a cryptocurrency trading company based in Singapore and convinced Ramesh to invest through a fake trading app, promising high returns. Ramesh's initial investment of INR 50,000 (around $583) yielded a profit of INR 8,300 (around $100), enticing him to transfer larger sums through bank transfers and UPI payments. Over the course of three months, Ramesh deposited a total of INR 1.67 crore (around $200,000) into the fake crypto investment app. However, when he attempted to withdraw his earnings, the app locked his wallet, preventing any withdrawals. The scammer then demanded an additional INR 25 lakh (around $29,175) to release the funds, which Ramesh refused to pay. He subsequently blocked the scammer on WhatsApp and deactivated the phone number. Upon realizing the fraud, Ramesh reported the incident to the Cyberabad Police.
