WhatsApp fraud scheme uses state crime center’s name – DailyTrib.com

The Texas Financial Crimes Intelligence Center is warning WhatsApp users about a fraud scheme that accuses potential victims of participating in money laundering and demands a “fine” to get them out of trouble. The fraudsters are using the names of the FCIC and its director to make their scheme seem legitimate, according to a July 17 media release from the center. Verified cases have been reported in the Austin and San Marcos areas. The FCIC never collects fines and rarely interacts with members of the public, according to the release. In fact, law enforcement in general will never solicit any type of payment in lieu of arrest. Any correspondence asking for payment is likely to be fraudulent, and residents are cautioned to never send money if they’ve received a similar correspondence or interact with the scammers. Potential victims should keep any communications they receive and report the incident to local law enforcement, who can then contact the FCIC. The Texas Financial Crimes Intelligence Center, located in Tyler, is staffed by law enforcement officers and intelligence analysts who investigate organized financial crimes, including credit card skimming and shimming that attack fuel dispensers, ATMs, and point-of-sale terminals, as well as many other types

This Is The WhatsApp Group Chat Feature We Always Needed – Dataconomy

WhatsApp is developing a new typing indicator for group chats, recently observed by WABetaInfo in Android beta version 2.25.20.17. This feature aims to provide users with real-time information regarding the number of participants actively typing within a group conversation. The update addresses a common challenge in large group settings where discerning how many individuals are composing messages simultaneously can be difficult. Image: WABetaInfo Previously, WhatsApp had updated its typing indicator across both individual and group chats. The present iteration displays a “typing” or “audio recording” visual directly within chat tabs, positioned beside the profile icon. This contrasts with older versions that required users to open a chat to ascertain its status. The forthcoming group chat enhancement builds upon this existing functionality. WhatsApp will now summarize your missed chats Stay Ahead of the Curve! Don't miss out on the latest insights, trends, and analysis in the world of data, technology, and startups. The new indicator will not mimic previous designs that only displayed one person typing at a time, potentially obscuring activity from other members. Instead, it will explicitly show the numerical count of participants who are typing.

Over the past few days, many users in the United States have noticed something new on WhatsApp: a blue circle icon labeled Meta AI that now appears in the chat screen or inside the search bar. It’s starting to roll out slowly, and while not everyone has it yet, those who do are seeing it show up automatically — sometimes even as a fixed chat in their inbox. And let’s be honest, it’s a bit much. WhatsApp has always felt like one of the few places without algorithmic noise or surprise bots. But that’s changing now, and Meta AI is becoming part of the experience — whether you asked for it or not. That said, if you’d rather not have it in your face every time you open the app, you’re not alone. Confirmed – millions of users could be being watched on WhatsApp without knowing it – Pedirayudas

Today, instant messaging apps are the primary form of communication worldwide. WhatsApp is the communications giant. With the inclusion of voice and video calls, users are connected at all times. This has led to cases of digital espionage, hacking, fraud, and even viruses introduced into smartphones via WhatsApp. This is why it’s important to have two-step verification that activates the security of our mobile phones. How can they spy on someone else via WhatsApp? On the one hand, if someone obtains someone else’s unlocked smartphone, they can link the account to a computer and access WhatsApp Web. A phone number can also be cloned by duplicating the SIM card or even by using spy apps, i.e., malicious programs installed on smartphones that can send messages to third parties without us realizing it. These malicious tools often run in the background and can access the phone’s camera and microphone. To ensure your phone is free from hacks or viruses, it’s recommended to use a reliable mobile antivirus and avoid installing apps outside the official Google Play or App Store. Signs that your phone may be being spied on: On the one hand, there’s abnormal battery drain, unexplained overheating of the phone
