Officials say a WhatsApp status featuring rival gang member and an alleged taunt sparked a firing incident A dispute allegedly triggered by a WhatsApp status escalated into a firing incident in Kalyan West, following which Khadakpada Police arrested two persons and took the injured main accused into custody. According to police, the incident took place in the Mohane area of Kalyan West, where two rival groups led by Abhishek Pawar alias Avi and Gaurav Salunkhe have allegedly been at loggerheads for some time. Investigators said tensions between the groups had already surfaced on May 26, when a dispute reportedly broke out between them. Police said the latest flashpoint was a WhatsApp status uploaded by resident Monu Phulore, featuring a photograph of himself with Gaurav Salunkhe along with text that was allegedly intended as a taunt directed at Pawar. Search for target On Friday night, Pawar, accompanied by several associates, allegedly reached Patil Nagar in Mohane in search of Phulore. Sensing trouble as a group of around 10 to 12 persons approached, Phulore and his brother reportedly fled the area. Police alleged that Pawar then opened fire, discharging two rounds in Phulore’s direction. While the intended target escaped unhurt, the firing

From social media posts to radio phone-ins and customer care complaints, consumers have repeatedly asked the same question: Why does my data finish so quickly? Over the weekend, that debate took centre stage in an unusual public hearing organised by MTN Nigeria, where the country’s largest telecom operator effectively put itself on trial before consumers, journalists, technology experts, digital creators and industry stakeholders. Attorney General Nick Brown is warning Washington residents about a scam targeting injured, Spanish-speaking workers across the Pacific Northwest. This scam has not yet been documented in Washington, but Washington workers should be aware that they may be targeted. The scam Scammers contact the injured worker via phone, email, video call, text message, WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger or social media apps and falsely claim to represent government agencies, law firms or courts. Communications may appear official because they include government agency seals, use government agency addresses, include signatures by government officials or identify the caller as a government representative, attorney or judge, but the communications are fraudulent. The scammers tell the worker that they must pay money to receive workers’ compensation benefits or to receive a settlement. Scammers may request payment in the form of gift cards, wire transfer or cryptocurrency. After the worker pays, the scammers cut off contact and take the injured worker’s money. In a variation of this scam, impostors try to convince the worker to appear at a fake online workers’ compensation hearing. The hearing may appear official and

The Tories’ letter to Sir Laurie Magnus comes after a senior minister insisted the Prime Minister’s use of the function, which auto-deletes correspondences on the communications app, was not a “cover-up”. The ethics watchdog must investigate whether Sir Keir has broken the ministerial code by not preserving his WhatsApp messages, shadow Cabinet Office minister Alex Burghart said in his letter to Sir Laurie. He cited a section of the ministerial code which says ministers should use internal systems for “all Government business”, and are obliged to “keep accurate public records” when they use “non-corporate communication channels” for official business. Mr Burghart’s letter continued: “At its heart, this is a tale about corrupt and predatory practices of Jeffery Epstein and his friends, and a style of behaviour in public life that is rotten to the core. “In that light, I believe it would be timely for you to undertake an investigation into the conduct of the Prime Minister and his office. This should not be brushed under

It's a system-level feature that's limited to Google's own communication apps, like Google Messages and Phone by Google. Apps like WhatsApp use end-to-end encryption, and that's precisely why the feature can not extend to other apps. Fortunately, though, it looks like WhatsApp is working on a 'Scam Detection' solution by itself. Related
