twitter's-mobile-web-app-is-currently-down-for-some-|-techcrunch

Twitter's mobile web app is currently down for some | TechCrunch

A few days after a Twitter bug randomly logged some users out of their accounts, the company’s web app on mobile is now currently down for some. The social network’s mobile and desktop applications appear to be working fine. According to third-party web monitoring service Downdetector, the issue seems to have started at around 8:00 AM ET. Once you open the web page on your phone, you’ll see a notice that says “Nothing to see here” with a blurb that says “Looks like this page doesn’t exist. Here’s a picture of a poodle sitting in a chair for your trouble.” Image Credits: Screenshot/TechCrunch Twitter has yet to acknowledge the problem via its official Twitter or Twitter Support accounts. If we were to email Twitter asking for a comment regarding the outage, they would just email us back a poop emoji. The latest outage is yet another example of the growing slate of issues that have followed Elon Musk’s takeover of the social network and the significant layoffs of engineering staff that the transition entailed. Since then, Twitter has experienced a range of problems, including multiple outages. We’ll monitor the issue and update this article once the problem is resolved.

Musk Threatens to Give Away NPR's Twitter Handle Unless It Tweets Again – Rolling Stone

Skip to main content The public broadcaster quit Twitter after their account was labeled "state-affiliated" Elon Musk Philip Pacheco / AFP via Getty Images Elon Musk suggested he would re-assign NPR’s Twitter account because the company had stopped tweeting, NPR claimed on Tuesday. In a series of emails to an NPR reporter, the billionaire reportedly threatened to transfer the @npr handle to “another company.” “So is NPR going to start posting on Twitter again, or should we reassign @NPR to another company?” the organization claimed the billionaire wrote in an email. “Our policy is to recycle handles that are definitively dormant,” Musk wrote in a follow-up email, per the report. “Same policy applies to all accounts. No special treatment for NPR.” In April, the public broadcaster quit the social media platform after Twitter added a “state-affiliated media” label to NPR’s main account. The decision made NPR — a private, non-profit company that maintains editorial independence from the U.S. government — the first major news outlet to stop publishing new content on Twitter. Trending That tag was later revised to “government-funded media,” though NPR has said both are false and misleading. Musk also took the label off government-backed outlets including Russia’s RT and

New York legislator's Twitter hacked after appearance before Pa. House committee

By Peter Sterne Shortly after New York State Assembly Member Anna Kelles finished testifying to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives about the environmental impacts of cryptocurrency mining on Monday morning, her Twitter account was hacked by cryptocurrency spammers. “We reached a new ALL-TIME-HIGH! Get ready to receive free $PEPE tokens!” read a tweet posted to Kelles’ Twitter account. The tweet encouraged Kelles’ followers to purchase an obscure cryptocurrency called Pepecoin. The tweet received thousands of likes, making it much more popular than the Assembly member’s usual tweets. Kelles does not think it’s a coincidence that her Twitter account was hacked to promote cryptocurrency at the exact same time that she was testifying about concerns over cryptocurrency mining. She sees the hack as a prank meant to retaliate against her criticism of the cryptocurrency industry. “It was, I mean, flattering to think that I could get that many hits on my own, but I usually get at maybe the absolute most a couple of hundred. And this had 7,000 within 45 minutes,” Kelles told City & State after regaining access to her account. “So it was just clearly set up with a bot to recirculate it and to have as much damage as

Analysis-Companies wary as Twitter checkmark policy fuels imposter accounts | WTVB

By Hardik Vyas and Sheila Dang(Reuters) – Twitter’s attempt to implement a paid account verification service has attracted imposters spreading misinformation, which experts said could lead major brands to further pull back from the social media platform owned by billionaire Elon Musk.On April 20, Twitter moved to boost profits by removing the once-coveted blue check marks from accounts and charging $8 a month to users who wish to buy a Twitter Blue subscription to retain their verified status.Musk’s latest initiative was met with a wave of imposter accounts sharing harmful misinformation. Some organizations have already stopped using Twitter, including the New York City Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) with 1.3 million followers. Both AT&T Inc and Volkswagen AG told Reuters they had paused Twitter ads and had not yet resumed as of April.Twitter has been hit by a massive decline in advertising since the acquisition but Musk told the BBC last month most of the advertisers are returning to the platform.Data from outside research firms and statements from several advertisers show Twitter’s ad business may not be bouncing back that quickly.“Twitter Blue is a mess. This is more chaos and confusion for brands who were already wary of impersonation. They don’t

Update 5/1/23: The bug was fixed by Twitter soon after posting this article. See update at end of article. Twitter Blue had previously replaced this system, allowing anyone to purchase a verified checkmark for their Twitter account for $8 per month. Bug brings back legacy checkmarks Today, Twitter users discovered that they could add the words "former blue check" to their Twitter bio, and a bug would bring back the legacy verified check mark to their profile. BleepingComputer briefly tested this bug on our profile, which lost its blue check on April 20th, and can confirm it brings back the original blue 'Verified account' checkmark. Bug brought back Legacy 'Verified' checkSource: BleepingComputer Unlike the previous checkmark that had been in place since the launch of Twitter Blue, this one contains the original text used before Musk started promoting Twitter Blue. ‘Companies facing bankruptcy do this’: Internet irate after Elon Musk led-Twitter reportedly slashed parental leaves The information was revealed through internal company documents cited by the New York Post Twitter CEO Elon Musk has been implementing various changes to the platform and policies since taking over the company last year. The latest change that has caused an uproar among employees and the public is the reduction of paid parental leave from 20 weeks to just 14 days for those employees who work in states in the US that do not have a paid leave policy. The information was revealed through internal company documents cited by the New York Post. The reduction in paid parental leave has received severe criticism from many quarters. As per a report in the New York Post, there is no federal law in the United States mandating paid parental leave. However, the Family and Medical Leave Act allows for "unpaid, job-protected leave for specified family and medical reasons'' for up to 12 weeks for certain employees. Additionally, 12 states provide paid family and medical leave of some kind. California allows up to eight weeks of paid leave under state law, while both New York and New
