'Misgendering is an aggressive act'; Reaction to Congressman Banks' suspended Twitter account

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Fort Wayne's NBC) - People in Fort Wayne are reacting to Twitter's recent suspension of Indiana Congressman Jim Banks' account. The official Twitter account of Rep. Jim Banks was frozen on Saturday after Twitter flagged a recent post as violating its terms of service. MORE: Twitter freezes Banks’ account, cites ‘hateful conduct’ The social media giant took issue with a remark related to the recent elevation of Dr. Rachel Levine to a four-star admiral position. Levine is transgender. Following her swearing in, Banks posted: "The Title of first female four-star officer gets taken by a man." Rachel Hile with the Allen County Stonewall Democrats says she's sadden by her state representative. “Misgendering is an aggressive act to a subgroup of people," Hile said. “It makes me feel sad that the way he represents me, when he tries so hard to hurt people that I love.” Hile says their group advocates for political representation for the LGBTQ+ community in Allen County. “He made it really clear that he doesn’t care about a significant portion of his constituents," Hile said. Allen County Republican Party Chair Steve Shine says he disagrees with the Twitter suspension. “The better title would be…

(AP Photo/Alex Brandon, File) FORT WAYNE, Ind. — Twitter has suspended an Indiana congressman’s official account after removing a post about a transgender Biden administration official over a violation of the social media company’s rules. Twitter’s action came after Republican Rep. Jim Banks posted tweets last week regarding Dr. Rachel Levine becoming the first openly transgender four-star officer in the U.S. uniformed services. Banks had responded by writing: “the title of first female four-star officer gets taken by a man.” The post was removed with a reference to Twitter rules that include a ban on “targeted misgendering” of transgender people. Banks is standing by his post.

File Photo by Sarah Silbiger/UPI | License Photo Oct. 24 (UPI) -- Rep. Jim Banks said his official Twitter account has been suspended after he intentionally misgendered Department of Health and Human Services assistant secretary for health Rachel Levine in a tweet. Banks, R-Ind., on Saturday shared a screenshot of the tweet where he referred to Levine, the first openly transgender Cabinet official confirmed by the Senate, as "a man" after she was named the first female and first transgender four-star officer of the U.S. Public Health Service Commissioned Corps. A Twitter representative told The Hill Banks' account had been temporarily locked for violating the social network's Hateful Conduct policy. The policy includes "targeted misgendering or deadnaming of transgender individuals" as a violation of the policy. Punjab: Aroosa Alam photos tumble out in Twitter war of advisers | Chandigarh News – Times of India

CHANDIGARH: Former Punjab CM Capt Amarinder Singh’s media adviser Raveen Thukral and Punjab Congress chief Navjot Singh Sidhu’s principal strategic adviser Mohammad Mustafa got into a war of words on Twitter and later seemed to have reached a comprise on Saturday, but not before Thukral dug up old photos of Mustafa’s family members with Aroosa Alam, a Pakistani friend of Amarinder who is being accused of being an ISI agent. The exchange of barbs started after Mustafa, a former DGP of Punjab Police who also has personal ties with Amarinder, hit out at the former CM in two tweets. MY TIME TOO PRECIOUS TO ENGAGE PROXIES @RT_Media_Capt. THE DEPTH & DIMENSIONS OF OUR RELATIONSHIPS WITH CAS ARE BEY… https://t.co/rl6VeEm2BJ— MOHD MUSTAFA, FORMER IPS (@MohdMustafaips) 1634990772000In the second tweet, he also posted a photo of Alam with Dinkar Gupta and Vini Mahajaan, the husband-wife duo who were the Punjab DGP and chief secretary when Amarinder was the CM. In the first tweet, Mustafa took a jibe at Amarinder, who had said on Friday that Alam’s visit had been cleared to India by the ministry of external affairs, RAW and IB. “Please do understand, grant of visa by UPA or NDA doesn't…

North Carolina DOT trolls Ohio over license plate mix-up, sets off Twitter debate | WJTV

by: Nexstar Media Wire Posted: Oct 23, 2021 / 07:15 PM CDT / Updated: Oct 23, 2021 / 07:15 PM CDT The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) wasn’t about to let Ohio off the hook for its new license plate design, which mistakenly featured the Wright Brothers’ plane flying in reverse. (Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles) (NEXSTAR) – The “First in Flight” state is trolling the “Birthplace of Aviation” on Twitter. Earlier this week, Ohio unveiled its design for the state’s new license plate, which featured an image of the Wright Brothers’ plane dragging a banner reading “Birthplace of Aviation.” But within hours, Ohio officials had acknowledged that the plane — as it was depicted on the license plate — was oriented in the wrong direction, making it appear as if the aircraft was somehow flying in reverse. Ohio’s Bureau of Motor Vehicles later said they regretted the mix-up and fixed the design. We are aware that the plane on the new Ohio license plate unveiled this morning was oriented in the wrong direction. We regret this mistake and have fixed the image. This is the correct design that will be reflected on all new plates issued to Ohio…

Then he continued,  “We like to see her there; it’s just important to me.” The other hosts began to laugh as Stephen continued to thirst over the rapper. twitter's-tool-for-removing-unwanted-followers-arrives-for-web-users-–-yahoo

Twitter's tool for removing unwanted followers arrives for web users – Yahoo

All Twitter users can now remove a follower without having to block them. The company started testing this option last month, and starting today, everyone will have access to it. To quietly stop someone from seeing your tweets in their feed, go to the Followers tab on your profile, click the three-dot menu next to the user in question and select the "Remove this follower" option. This is part of Twitter's efforts to reduce harassment on the platform. Blocking someone you don't want to follow you could lead to retaliation from that person via their allies or their secondary accounts after they find out. Cutting them in this fashion and muting them will mean they're none the wiser that they're out of the loop. This method won't prevent someone you boot from your followers list from seeing your public tweets. Only blocking them or making your account private will do that. Elsewhere, Twitter is testing a Safety Mode, which automatically blocks accounts that use “potentially harmful language.” It's also looking into more ways to filter and limit replies, so it seems the company is making its anti-harassment efforts a bigger priority.

Twitter now allows you to 'remove followers' – WTEN

by: Nexstar Media Wire Posted: Oct 11, 2021 / 03:28 PM EDT / Updated: Oct 11, 2021 / 03:28 PM EDT TOPSHOT – This photograph taken on October 26, 2020 shows the logo of US social network Twitter displayed on the screen of a smartphone and a tablet in Toulouse, southern France. (Photo by LIONEL BONAVENTURE/AFP via Getty Images) (NEXSTAR) – Twitter announced Monday that all users will have a new level of control when it comes to managing their followers. Last month, Twitter Support announced that they were testing the ability to remove followers manually without blocking them. Now anyone can trim unwanted followers by going to their profile, clicking “followers,” then clicking the three-dot icon and selecting “remove this follower.” Other social media apps, such as Instagram, have already offered the tool as a more surreptitious way of keeping one’s content out of the feeds of unwanted users. Previously, a blocked Twitter user would see that they had been barred from seeing someone’s tweets and interacting with them, which could give rise to angry retaliation on other platforms. Some users resorted to a workaround called a “soft block,” which entailed blocking an abusive user, which removed that person…
