New York Daily News | Sep 07, 2021 at 10:32 PM After news of Jamie Spears filing to end daughter Britney’s 13-year conservatorship, fans of the pop star took to Twitter to celebrate the news and cap off the #FreeBritney movement. Britney Spears arrives at the 29th annual GLAAD Media Awards on April 12, 2018, in Beverly Hills, Calif. (Chris Pizzello/Invision) “BRITNEY SPEARS IS GOING TO FINALLY BE A FREE WOMAN OH MY GOD I’M SHAKING,” tweeted a fan. “I’m so overwhelmed to learn that papers have been filed to end @britneyspears’ conservatorship. Wishing the best for Britney and hoping to see her free before her birthday in December,” added another user. “I can’t stop crying. We did it kids. #FREEBRITNEY,” another user chimed. Some fans were not happy that Britney’s father Jamie won’t be subject to criminal prosecution. “Jamie still needs to face charges on conservatorship abuse idc idc #FreeBritney,” a fan said. Responding to a quote from Britney’s attorney, another user set their eyes on Jamie saying, “You can run, but you can’t hide, James Parnell Spears. #FreeBritney.” Iggy Azalea, who performed with Britney in their collaboration song “Pretty Girls” retweeted images of the two on stage, writing,…

When Americans were all winding down from their second Saturday, Weibo—China’s version of Twitter—suspended at least 21 fan accounts for K-pop bands like BTS and Blackpink. In a statement that felt like the rules change ceremony in Wife Swap, the platform said it scrubbed the accounts to curb “irrational star-chasing behavior.”The purge began Sunday, when Weibo banned a BTS fan club with 1.1 million followers from posting for 60 days after it crowdsourced a birthday gift for Jimin (the cutest BTS member, keep up).According to Weibo, collecting donations to customize an airplane for your fav vocalist contributes to the “chaos of fan clubs” that China wants to quell. Later that day, Weibo said it would ban a number of other celebrity accounts in an effort to “purify” its platform. It cited a government notice from last Thursday about banning “vulgar internet celebrities” and feminine-looking men on TV. Big picture: China’s entertainment industry has recently had to confront spikes in online censorship as the government cracks down on internet culture, which it considers unhealthy. Just last week, China limited online video game playing to three hours a week for kids under 18. – MM

Boston Red Sox left fielder Alex Verdugo. (Brian Fluharty-USA TODAY Sports) The Boston Red Sox blew a 7-1 lead to the Rays while giving up the game-tying run in the ninth inning on an inside-the-park home run. It’s funny how quickly fortunes can change in baseball. One minute, you’re scoring six runs in the second inning to take a commanding lead against a division rival. The next, you’re giving up an inside-the-park home run to tie the game in the ninth inning.Well, it was funny for anyone not rooting for the Red Sox, at least.Monday’s game between Boston and Tampa Bay was the definition of silly. The Red Sox had a 7-1 lead early and watched it evaporate thanks to four errors and that aforementioned feat in the ninth. After seeing the Rays tie up the RedSox with an inside the park homer in the 9th. I'm now convinced. They win the World Series, Super Bowl, Stanley Cup and the Scripps spelling bee.— Denis Phillips (@DenisPhillipsWx) September 6, 2021Incredibly, that was one of two inside-the-park homers on the day, though Nelson Cruz’s came courtesy of a throwing error in the fourth. The Rays went on to win 11-10 after the 10th.Red Sox fans…

Joe West during Padres vs. Astros. (Orlando Ramirez-USA TODAY Sports) Home plate umpire Joe West was racked over the coals by MLB Twitter for his horrible strike call during the Padres game against the Astros. In a tie ball game, every call counts. Sadly, blown calls matter even more. That’s why Joe West got obliterated by Twitter when he handed Padres closer Mark Melancon a strikeout of Aledmys Díaz on a terrible called strike to end the bottom of the ninth against the Astros.Have a look:There were men on third and first so that at-bat was potentially critical in the game. It’s a shame it ended that way.Joe West blew a critical call in the ninth inning of the Astros-Padres gameMelancon got out of the inning with the Astros and Padres tied at 3-3. In the bottom of the ninth, Jake Cronenworth hit a walk off home run to break the deadlock.MLB Twitter didn’t let West off the hook. How has Joe West not been forced into retirement— Ross Villarreal (@SportsRV) September 5, 2021MLB owes it to their players and fans to employ umpires who can get things right more often than not. West doesn’t fit that description and everyone seems to know…

It didn’t take long for Notre Dame to find the endzone against Florida State. On a 4th and 2, transfer quarterback Jack Coan found sophomore tight end Michael Mayer alone on the right side of the field. Mayer then had an easy run into the endzone for the Irish, as they got on the board first. It was an absolutely fantastic first drive where the Irish went with an uptempo attack, that obviously caught the Seminoles off guard. The Irish didn’t run the ball once, threw every single down and it resulted in a quick score for the Irish. A great job by the offense and play calling by Tommy Rees. Just a beaut. At a glance.WhatsApp patches bug.Twitter updates its features to promote "social privacy."Labor Day threats to data privacy.WhatsApp bug discovered hiding in image filters.WhatsApp is in the news again, this time for a (now-patched) vulnerability that could have allowed an attacker to read a user’s private data. Exploitation of the bug would require both the user and the attacker to jump through a complex series of hoops, but experts at Check Point Research say that given the global messaging platform’s massive reach, the presence of the issue at all is worth noting. The attack hinges on the way WhatsApp filters and transmits images. Because filtering requires modification of the picture’s pixels, a hack could be triggered by the attacker sending the target a malicious image. When contacted about the glitch, WhatsApp responded, “This report involves multiple steps a user would have needed to take and we have no reason to believe users would have been impacted by this bug. That said, even the most complex scenarios researchers identify can help increase security for users.” WhatsApp version 2.21.1.13 includes a patch, complete with image checks to further safeguard against exploitation of the glitch.New Twitter features promote social privacy. In an attempt to make…
