Experts say Trump's Twitter ban could affect political polarization

MADISON (WKOW) -- President Donald Trump is the first prominent U.S. politician to face a lifetime suspension from Twitter. Politics and communication experts say the ban sends a message. "President Trump has violated Twitter's terms of service, Facebook's, YouTube's, for five years now," UW-Madison journalism professor Mike Wagner said. "They're finally enforcing their terms of service on the president in the way that they enforce it on others, and it's important to show that the president is not above those terms of service from social media platforms." Twitter said it banned Trump because his tweets posed a risk of inciting violence following the insurrection at the U.S. Capitol Wednesday. "They see President Trump is not only a source of misinformation on Twitter, but also having helped instigate the violence that we saw in the U.S. Capitol," political expert David Canon said. "That's what finally pushed Twitter over the edge and said, 'okay, we just can't do this anymore. This is actually really harming our democracy and undermining our ability to function as a democracy.'" Even without access to the platform he frequently used to directly address his supporters, journalists and other members of the federal government, Trump will have access…

Twitter can't wait to watch Jalen Ramsey vs. Davante Adams

The Rams have a date with the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field next Saturday, pitting the No. 1 defense against the top-scoring offense. But as always, there’s a game within the game, and this heavyweight bout is no different. When it was revealed that the Rams would be playing the Packers in the divisional round, Twitter erupted with excitement for the Jalen Ramsey vs. Davante Adams matchup. It’ll be arguably the best cornerback in football against arguably the top wide receiver, both of whom were All-Pros this season. Here’s how fans on Twitter reacted to this matchup coming to fruition, and it’s hard to blame them. This one is going to be a blast to watch. Trump went 'ballistic' after being tossed off Twitter

So too was much of the political universe, which has become bleary-eyed obsessive about Twitter these past four years as Trump used the medium to fire advisers, sink legislative initiatives, encourage social duress and, lastly, praise the scores of MAGA faithful, just days after hundreds of them violently ransacked the Capitol. In a statement issued by the White House, Trump said he’d been “negotiating with various other sites” while “we also look at the possibilities of building out our own platform in the near future.” But aides did not reveal what plans were in the works. When Trump’s eldest son, Don Jr. offered up a URL to those hoping to keep tabs of his father’s whereabouts, it was a site that had been purchased in 2009 and, in recent years, a place where his books were sold. For those who did sign up, an email was sent, plugging his latest work: “Liberal Privilege”. “As you know, the election is coming up,” it read, of the contest that took place two months ago. For Trump, the Twitter ban was yet another inglorious passage to the final chapter of his presidency. Over the past two days, he’s been admonished by his own…

Twitter reacts to Deshaun Watson trade rumors

The NFL postseason hasn’t even begun, but the offseason is already kicking into high gear, particularly for the Houston Texans and quarterback Deshaun Watson. This week, the Texans hired former New England Patriots director of player personnel Nick Caserio to be the team’s general manager after firing former general manager and coach Bill O’Brien during the 2020 season. When the hiring was announced, Watson fired off a cryptic message in a now-deleted tweet, saying “Some things never change.” The tweet appeared to be directed at the team for bringing on Caserio. Now, there are rumors he may request a trade. According to Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio, Watson has brought up the possibility of requesting a trade to some of his teammates, adding fuel to this growing fire. Watson was drafted by the Texans in 2017 after they moved up to select their franchise quarterback. He was rewarded for his stellar play with a four-year, $156 million extension last summer. Later, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported that Watson is “extremely unhappy” with the Texans after they failed to involve him in the process of hiring a new GM after promising he would be involved. Deshaun Watson has not spoken to…

Twitter reactions to Kentucky's win over Vanderbilt

The Kentucky Wildcats gets a much needed victory over the Vanderbilt Commodores, 77-74. It was another close game, much like last Saturday against Mississippi State. Dontaie Allen, while not dropping 23 points like previously, did have another solid game tonight and was able to spread the floor and hit his open threes when they were needed. For BJ Boston, however, it was yet another game where the five-star struggled to get a basket. Boston once again found himself on the bench in crunch time when Kentucky needed a basket, instead going with Dontaie Allen, and rightly so. Olivier Sarr lead Kentucky with 24 points. Davion Mintz hit a go-ahead three with around 45 seconds left to take the permanent lead. After dropping six straight, the Wildcats have started 2-0 in SEC play, winning two close knit games. Nail-biter games might turn out to be a positive for this team later on down the stretch. Here’s how Twitter reacted to Kentucky’s second straight grind-it-out win: The fact that Kentucky was able to win that game despite being out rebounded by 13, having 6 fewer assists, making 5 less threes, and 4 less field goals is incredible.— Jake Adkins (@jakefromky) January 6,…
