Alvarez Scores Late, Vandals Advance – University of Idaho Athletics

MISSOULA, Mont. (AP) — Naomi Alvarez wasn't ready for her Vandal career to end. With the season on the line, she chipped a ball past the Portland State keeper in the 78th minute to put the Vandals on top with a lone goal while Paula Flores made three saves to record her ninth shutout of the season, lifting Idaho past Portland State 1-0 on Wednesday in the Big Sky Conference quarterfinals. Idaho controlled possession most of the match, but couldn't find the back of the net until late in the second half. After pressing for the few minutes prior, Alvarez gathered the ball past the 18-yard box, dribbled and sent the ball far post where the Portland State keeper couldn't get to it, delivering the game-winner for the Vandals (6-5-8).
