I used to get paid to look at Twitter. I don’t mean that I didn’t want to do my job, and so I snuck peeks at the timeline when I was supposed to be collating print-outs or stacking boxes. I mean that my job duties formally included “looking at Twitter,” and that I drew a salaried wage from doing so. From the spring of 2014 through the summer of 2016, I was a staff writer for Pitchfork, where I was assigned to the news team. My daily responsibilities involved keeping up with Pitchfork’s various news aggregators and social media feeds, watching out for any breaking developments that might matter to our readers. The main way I did this was through a third-party service called TweetDeck, which no longer exists. TweetDeck was a subscription-based tool that allowed you to sort the accounts you followed into a series of individual feeds, and group them by theme. You could also log into multiple Twitter accounts, and keep track of everything on the same screen. Picture the falling lines of code in The Matrix , only every line of code is a tweet. In our opinion, Duke has had four points guards who stand above the rest: Tommy Amaker, Bobby Hurley, Jon Scheyer and Tyus Jones. The first three were at Duke for four years, but Jones of course was only here for one year, which resulted in the 2015 national championship. At Duke, he quickly established himself as one of the smartest guards in school and possibly NCAA history. In that sense, he was a bit of a prodigy. Amaker led Duke to the national title game and a 37-win season, while Hurley had back-to-back championships and Scheyer helped Duke to the 2010 championship. Over the past year, Elon Musk has made a series of protocol changes to Grok, the proprietary AI chatbot of his company xAI, which runs prominently on his social media site X, formerly Twitter. Many of these changes have been geared to make the bot more amenable to producing pornography. In August, Grok launched an image generator, branded as Grok Imagine, which featured a service geared toward creating nude, suggestive or sexually explicit content, including computer-generated pornographic images of real women. The feature, which was quickly used to create naked images of celebrities such as Taylor Swift, also allowed users to create brief videos, complete with animations and sounds. Musk also rolled out AI girlfriends on the platform: animated personas – including female characters with exaggerated breasts and hips – that interacted in sexually explicit ways with users. One of the characters, “Ani”, was an anime-style cartoon blonde with a series of skimpy outfits; the bot blew kisses and addressed users as “my love” while directing the chats toward sexual content.
