Jesus De Vicente tested the Hokie goalkeeper early forcing a save at the low post from a free kick while Simmonds also registered a near miss inside the penalty area. The Cavaliers broke open the scoring minutes later when Marco Dos Santos picked out Umberto Pelà inside the penalty area who found the back of the net to score in consecutive games. Freshman Jackson Musto paced the Jaguars in his collegiate debut, clocking 20:44.3 to finish 31st and lead Augusta's scoring pack. Fellow freshman Sam Segrist crossed just behind in 20:52.8 for 36th place, while senior Shahzeb Rashid added veteran presence with a 21:04.4 finish for 46th. Rounding out Augusta's top five were freshman Landon Amos (21:20.9, 55th) and freshman Barrett Stepp (21:41.5, 63rd). Sophomore David Ajuzie also competed, finishing 77th overall. The Jaguars fielded a young lineup with four freshmen in the scoring group, gaining valuable early-season experience against a competitive field. Virginia dominated the Spider Alumni Open in Richmond, Va. for the third consecutive year as graduate student Nicholas Bendtsen and sophomore Stella Kermes won the men’s 6k and women’s 4k. In his Virginia debut, Bendtsen led the Cavaliers to a 1-2-3-4-6 finish. The Wolcott, Conn. native crossed the line in 17:57.6, just 0.1 ahead of Justin Wachtel (17:57.7), Andrew Jones (17:57.8) and Will Daley (17:57.9).
