Elon Musk, X Corp Settle $500 Million Severance Lawsuit | Entrepreneur

Elon Musk's X social media platform, formerly Twitter, has reportedly reached a tentative settlement in a $500 million class-action lawsuit over severance pay, the New York Times reports. The suit stems from when Musk took over Twitter in 2022; he cut more than 80% of the staff (around 6,000 employees). Many laid-off employees sued, claiming they were owed severance. Now, almost three years after the firings, X Corp has settled, though the terms have not been disclosed. Fox Business reports that, in the lawsuit, the laid-off employees claim a company severance plan from 2019 stated that cut workers receive two months' base salary — and a week for every year served. The lawsuit says that some workers affected by the layoffs received only one month of severance pay, while others did not receive anything, per the filing. Separate cases regarding former senior executives at the company are still ongoing. The severance arbitration cases of more than 2,000 former Twitter employees were also reached. The Times calls the moves an

Why are Mexicans obsessed with this working-class English town? – Mexico News Daily

What do the people of Sunderland, England — a working-class port city along the wind-whipped coast of the North Sea, approximately 8,744 kilometers away from Mexico City — have in common with Mexican soccer fans? Absolutely everything, it turns out. That’s because Sunderland Association Football Club is suddenly at the center of a bizarre if not lovable trend among Mexico’s passionate fanbase and is, inexplicably, Mexico’s European team of choice this season. Currently, thousands of Mexican fans (many of whom have presumably never been to, or even heard of, the metropolitan borough in the United Kingdom before adopting the team) are flooding the team’s social media channels with declarations of loyalty, support and unwavering zeal — followed by a parade of Mexican flag emojis: Mexican football fans have, somewhat inexplicably, decided to support Sunderland, a Premier League team, this year. (Social media) Mexican fans throw their support behind Sunderland AFC The comments have provoked Sunderland AFC fan accounts into asking Mexican fans if they’re joking or serious. The responses have been equally comical, with countless Mexican fans responding that they’re eternally committed to Sunderland and aren’t going anywhere. One Mexico fan broke the cadence of Spanish with an attempt at

X settles severance claims of former Twitter employees – Personnel Today

Social media firm X and its owner Elon Musk have reached a settlement with some of its former employees who had sued for $500m (£373m) in severance pay. Details of the agreement are not yet public and will require the approval of the courts. In addition to the group action, there are more than 2,000 individual arbitration cases over unpaid severance stemming from Musk’s takeover of Twitter (now called X) in November 2022, after the billionaire dismissed more than 6,000 people, over half of the company’s workforce. “The parties have reached a settlement agreement in principle and began negotiating the terms of a long-form settlement agreement,” according to court documents filed by both sides. The lawsuit, led by former Twitter employee Courtney McMillian, claimed that about 6,000 people were wrongly denied benefits under the company’s severance plan. The firm had failed to provide payments as high as six months’ worth of salaries, among other terms, stated the claim. Twitter had only given sacked workers at most one month of severance pay, while some former employees did not receive anything, according to the lawsuit. The parties filed a joint request to delay an upcoming appeal hearing, scheduled for 17 September, to

Elon Musk Reaches a Tentative Settlement with Former Twitter Employees | KQED

Former Twitter employees dismissed by Musk requested $500 million in a class action lawsuit on Wednesday.  (Marc Piasecki/Getty Images) When Musk bought Twitter for $44 billion in 2002, he fired 6,000 employees. The class-action lawsuit stems from that turnover, after former Twitter employees say they did not receive their severance benefits or information about their severance package. Twitter’s merger agreement states that severance, among other former employee benefits, would be honored for up to a year after the merger. The lawsuit claims that those promises were made to prevent a mass resignation that would threaten the merger deal. McMillian’s severance package included six-and-a-half months’ pay, six months of continued health insurance coverage and any bonuses. She was offered severance equal to one month’s pay, according

Tech billionaire Elon Musk and his firm will pay $500 million to former Twitter employees who were fired without severance after he took over the social media platform. Musk and his social media company, X Corp, reached a tentative agreement to settle the lawsuit, which was filed by 6,000 former Twitter workers who argued that they were owed severance pay. The tech billionaire bought Twitter, now rebranded to X, for $44 billion. Musk did not meet the end of the bargain for former Twitter employees Attorneys for X Corp and the former employees revealed the agreement in a Wednesday court filing, with both parties asking a US appeals court to delay an upcoming court hearing to enable them to finalize a deal that would see the fired employees getting paid, in a move that would also end the litigation. However, the financial terms of the deal were not revealed. Musk acquired the platform in 2022, which resulted in 6,000 employees – more than half of its total headcount getting laid off. Among the major sweeping changes that came along with the acquisition, Musk rebranded the platform to X. The proposed class action lawsuit was filed in California by Courtney McMillian

Musk’s X reaches tentative settlement with former Twitter workers in $500 million lawsuit – Lowell Sun

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Elon Musk’s X has reached a tentative settlement with former employees of the company then known as Twitter who’d sued for $500 million in severance pay. The parties disclosed the deal in a Wednesday court filing asking for a scheduled Sept. 17 hearing in the case to be postponed. The San Francisco federal appeals court on Thursday agreed to postpone the hearing so that both sides could finalize the settlement agreement. The terms of the settlement were not disclosed. The proposed class action lawsuit by former Twitter employees Courtney McMillan and Ronald Cooper, who said the company failed to pay them and other fired workers severance they were owed. Musk took over the social media platform in 2022 and let thousands of employees go, eliminating entire teams dedicated to trust and safety, human rights and making the site accessible to people with disabilities. Other lawsuits, including one filed by Twitter executives including former CEO Parag Agrawal, are still pending. The billionaire’s approach to gutting Twitter’s workforce served as a template for his months-long leadership of President Donald Trump’s Department of Government Efficiency, or DOGE, as it cut tens of thousands of federal workers earlier this year.
