Pokimane Calls YouTube An “Island” For Streamers – TheGamer

The popular content creator Pokimane recently gave her opinion about YouTube, calling the platform an “island” for streamers. “I don’t think I’ll be impressed until I see an ecosystem of livestreaming on YouTube,” the streamer noted. “Twitch has the ecosystem. Twitch has the culture. Twitch has the community.” This comes in the wake of news that another content creator, Sykkuno, has now become the latest in a long line of streamers to have migrated from Twitch to YouTube. Sykkuno claimed to have been treated relatively poorly by Twitch, noting how the company managed to misspell his name on a contract offer. “I’m supposed to be the twenty eighth highest earner on the platform, the forty fifth most followed streamer of all time on the platform and they called me ‘Sukkuno’ in an official email,” the content creator pointed out. “Maybe I have too big an ego or something, but I was just shocked.” In contrast to Sykkuno, Pokimane is perfectly happy with Twitch, claiming that YouTube is a poor alternative at the moment. YouTube in her opinion is great for big streamers, but the platform puts lesser known content creators at a strong disadvantage. “Streaming on YouTube, albeit not being…

Big-Name Streamer Sykkuno Ditched Twitch Partly Because It Misspelled His Name – Kotaku

Sykkuno, one of Twitch’s top streamers known for his wholesome demeanor and for playing games like Among Us and GTA Online, left the Amazon-owned platform for the red pastures of YouTube Gaming this month. The move shocked the livestreaming space because Sykkuno was something of a household name on Twitch, boasting four million followers and 103 million total views since becoming a more consistent streamer in April 2019. However, the switch made sense for him because, as he revealed during his first-ever YouTube Gaming livestream, the Google-owned platform offered him a slightly better deal, and Twitch gave his name a rather unfortunate misspelling in an official email. You might not have heard of him, but Sykkuno has been on YouTube for years. In fact, an old account of his can be traced back to April 2006, where he uploaded League of Legends and Minecraft content before moving to his current channel, which now has 2.75 million subscribers, in September 2011. While Sykkuno spent much of his early career on YouTube, he didn’t make a name for himself as a streamer until April 2019, when he began broadcasting regularly on the Twitch channel he’d created years before. In August 2020 he joined…

YouTube says bill could cover users' videos, despite minister's assurances – Coast Reporter

OTTAWA — YouTube has warned that cooking videos made in people's kitchens and other home videos could be regulated by an online streaming law, despite assurances from the heritage minister that this will not happen. OTTAWA — YouTube has warned that cooking videos made in people's kitchens and other home videos could be regulated by an online streaming law, despite assurances from the heritage minister that this will not happen. Speaking publicly for the first time about Bill C-11, Jeanette Patell, head of government affairs at YouTube Canada, said the draft law's wording gives the broadcast regulator scope to oversee everyday videos posted for other users to watch.  She told the National Culture Summit in Ottawa that the bill's text appears to contradict Heritage Minister Pablo Rodriguez's public assurances that it does not cover amateur content, such as cat videos.  The issue of whether the bill covers user-generated videos is likely to be closely discussed by MPs when the proposed legislation, which is passing through Parliament, goes to committee for closer scrutiny.  The online streaming bill, known in Parliament as Bill C-11, contains a clause excluding from regulation videos uploaded by a user for other users to watch.  It is…
