The Google Play Movies and TV app will no longer be available on any Roku set-top box or any Samsung, LG, Vizio or Roku smart TV starting July 15th, Google has announced (via 9to5Google). If you have movies or TV shows purchased or rented through the service, you’ll still be able to access them through the “Your movies and shows” section of the YouTube app on those devices. This change will also affect you if if you used the Movies and TV app to access Movies Anywhere, the service that allows you to redeem codes from DVDs and Blu-rays so you can access your media digitally. Google has confirmed to The Verge that users who relied on Play Movies and TV to access that content will be able to do so through YouTube. There are a few other caveats to note in the transition to YouTube. Your Watchlist will no longer be viewable in the app (though it can still be seen on the web by Googling “my watchlist”), and while your family can still share the content you bought from the Movie and TV store, any purchases made in the YouTube app won’t be shared with your family. Chess grandmaster and Twitch streamer Hikaru Nakamura has been accused of trying to take down the YouTube channel of one of his streaming rivals, Eric Hansen. The accusations have added yet another chapter in the long rivalry between Hansen and Nakamura. The two have a history of dramatic clashes, both on and off the chessboard. This feud recently reached new heights, with Nakamura accusing Hansen of unsportsmanlike conduct. In a recent game between Hansen and Nakamura, Hansen offered a draw to Nakamura. Nakamura did not accept, and Hansen assumed Nakamura was trying to win by running down Hansen’s time. He did not notice Nakamura himself later offering a draw. While waiting for Hansen to accept his offer, Nakamura ran out of time, making him lose the game. Following its first full week, the Japanese-language video soars to #1 on the latest edition of the chart. “Film out” leads the way thanks to the 53.1 million views it received during the April 2-8 tracking period. The count tops the video’s abbreviated debut mark by 265%. Lil Nas X’s “MONTERO (Call Me By Your Name),” last week’s leader, falls to #3 this week. Jubin Nauityal’s “Lut Gaye” holds in between the BTS and Lil Nas X videos at #2. — “Film out” concurrently soars fifty-two places to #3 on the Global YouTube Songs Chart, which accounts for YouTube activity from all official and/or otherwise eligible uploads. “Film out” received 55.3 million tracking period plays under that calculation. Age and demographic differences play a big role in which social media sites an individual uses, according to a new U.S. social media use report from Pew Research Center. The survey found that the two top sites continue to be YouTube (with 81% usage) and Facebook (69%). YouTube and Reddit were the only two platforms that showed significant growth since the last time the survey was conducted, which was in 2019. The next tier of platforms is comprised of Instagram, which was found to have about 40% usage among survey respondents. About 30% reported using Pinterest or LinkedIn and 25% use Snapchat, Twitter and WhatsApp. TikTok is used by about 21% and Nextdoor is used by about 13%. Younger adults – 18 to 29 years-old — reported somewhat different results. This group relies on Instagram (71%) and Snapchat (65%). About half use TikTok. On March 27, the YouTube channel Exploring with Project BAD posted the video entitled, “Holiday Inn Wichita Falls Abandoned.” The video now has more than six thousand views. On Friday, the city of Wichita Falls posted a statement about the video on social media. “The individual stated that the city will be tearing the hotel down,” the statement said. “This is false. The property is not owned by the City and there is not a demolition order on the structure.” According to city officials, the structure does not currently meet the criteria for demolition, even though the property has a lot of vandalism and cosmetic damage, and needs major repairs.
