The chants echoed across the Fenway Park concourse, as fans streamed through the narrow corridor celebrating the club’s first playoff appearance in four years. Mere feet away, separated by brick walls that have seen more than their fair share of agony and ecstasy over the years, the 2025 Red Sox were gearing up to do the same. By the time the door to the Red Sox home clubhouse opened to the media more than 15 minutes after the final out, the party was already well underway. Plastic tarps lined the walls and ceilings. Champagne and beer soaked the carpeted floor. The clubhouse furniture that normally adorned the players’ space was nowhere to be found. In its place was an overpowering smell of cigar smoke and a mass of humanity.
