SAN DIEGO — The city of San Diego has selected Harland Brewing Co. to run the new clubhouse at Mission Bay Golf Course. The ten-year lease, which still needs city council approval, will be presented to a city council committee at a March 4 meeting. According to a city staff report, the new proposed lease with Harland is expected to provide a new revenue source to “safeguard the fund’s long-term sustainability” and is expected to draw golfers as well as the general public. Mission Bay Golf Course is one of three publicly-owned and operated courses in San Diego. Since 1919, San Diego has operated courses at Mission Bay, Balboa Park, and Torrey Pines. The three facilities are funded through a dedicated Golf Enterprise Fund, which reinvests course revenue into maintenance, staffing, and improvements, with a portion of the funds transferred to the city’s general fund.
