Clubhouse helps job-seekers find the right match

A couple of months ago, when Bengaluru-based engineer Nandan missed out on the annual hike due to the Covid-19 pandemic, he decided to look for a new job. After multiple unsuccessful applications on job websites, he finally stumbled across a new role in an unlikely place — social audio app Clubhouse. Besides people holding chats on everything from TV shows to politics, some people are also using the platform to connect job seekers with recruiters. Entrepreneurs Harsha M V and Govind Kaushik started a weekly ‘room’ (or session) called #HiringMondays after hearing many stories of people who had lost their jobs due to the Covid-19 pandemic or suffered from major pay cuts. A typical hiring session is usually divided into two parts: first employers come to the stage to introduce their company and job roles, followed by job seekers pitching themselves and the kind of work they’re looking for. The two have organised 10 sessions since March, which are attended by hundreds. “There is a serendipity in connecting those who are looking to hire and someone looking for a job,” says Harsha, who runs influencer marketing startup Skreeem.
