Community celebrates World Kindness Day at Happy Camper Clubhouse – Deming Headlight

Happy Camper Clubhouse hosted fundraising eventDebbie Troyer  |  For the HeadlightDEMING – A group of community members celebrated World Kindness Day on Saturday at the Happy Camper Clubhouse located at 120 N. Tovar Street on Deming’s east side. This was the first-ever known celebration of the special day, according to Deming-Luna County Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Debbie Troyer.Clubhouse owners Jen and Premal Patel hosted a fundraiser for New Mexico State Police officer Jose Ortiz and Stitch Concepts owners Fabio and Crystal Garcia.  In June of 2021, the upholstery business Stitch Concepts on East Hemlock Street was destroyed by a suspicious fire. That morning, the Garcia’s helplessly watched as they lost everything. “The fire showed us just how amazing this community is,” said Crystal. “So many individuals and businesses stepped out to help us. Donations for raffles and auctions were given to raise money.”Moved by the generosity of the community these past months, the Garcia’s wanted to share their blessings with someone else. As chamber of commerce members, the Garcia’s reached out to the Executive Director, Debbie Troyer and asked for assistance in the planning for a fundraiser to include NMSP officer Ortiz who was recently diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma Cancer.
