Mrs. Doris Peaks Jones was born in Salisbury, North Carolina, on December 7, 1932 to Mr. and Mrs. Copell Johnson (both decreased). She departed this life on Wednesday, March 10, 2021. Mrs. Jones attended public schools in Salisbury, North Carolina, obtaining her Bachelors of Arts in elementary education from Livingstone College and Masters degree in guidance and counseling from North Carolina Central University. She also completed additional graduate courses at the University of Pittsburgh, North Carolina A&T State University, Hampton University, and Rutgers University. Upon completing her bachelor’s degree, she taught as an elementary and junior high teacher at Monroe Street Elementary and Joseph Charles (J.C.) Price High School. Later in her career, she served as a guidance counselor at J.C. Price High School. Mrs. Jones, a dedicated educator, worked as Director of Career Counseling and Placement at Livingstone College, Associate Managing Director at College Placement Services, Incorporated, and Director of Career Counseling and Placement at Winston Salem State University for over eleven years.
