During gameplay they are shown countdown clocks, for example, that create the impression that the chance to buy something in the game is about to expire – yet days later the offer is still there, the plaintiffs say. The foundation wants Epic Games to refund the money people spent “under that pressure” during the time when they were under 21 years old. It also wants players to receive damages. Combined, that would amount to more than 100 million euros. “Epic offers safeguards and tools that allow parents to control how their children make purchases, and set limits on how long they can play. The Fortnite Item Shop does not have a timer,” said Epic Games CEO Phil Mahoney in a statement sent to NL Times.
