Joao Felix’s career has been on a downward spiral for years, and it only looks to be intensifying. Buying him last summer was a foolish move by Chelsea, and has only led to more problems. He was loaned out to AC Milan in January, but didn’t do well enough there to tempt the Italian side into a permanent purchase. He was then left out of our Club World Cup squad, as expected, signalling that there was no intention at Chelsea of bringing him back into the fold. His only chance of escape appeared to be Benfica, his former club, and the only team to express any real interest in bringing him in. But there’s been almost no word on that front since early June, and it certainly looks like a chance that is diminishing.
