Downdetector reported thousands of users having issues with the social media and messaging platforms across the UK and the world. People jokingly called for Elon Musk to buy Meta – the company the behind the three brands – after he sealed a $44billion (£37.9 billion) takeover of rival Twitter. Scores of users reported issues with Facebook from around 8.30pm. Within minutes, Instagram and WhatsApp also went down. Birmingham City FC were among those on Twitter to post about the situation.
