Through bumper crops, droughts, and average years in between, a group of 100,000 Australian grain farmers have formed an online community through a Facebook group which aims to share the highs and lows of farming across the country. The Harvesting the Crop group was started by South Australian farmer John Gladigau in 2013 as a place for farmers to compare crop notes and share photos, jokes and advice. John Gladigau farmed in SA’s Mallee region for many years and is now Grain Producers SA chair. (ABC News: Ben Deacon) He said it was the only group he could find dedicated to Australian grain farming on Facebook at the time and it quickly gained a local and global following.
