Jury selection begins Monday in federal court for a former Brentwood woman accused of running a yearslong securities and wire fraud scheme that lied to investors about wearable payment technology. Michelle Bisnoff, 57, who also goes by Michelle Angeline Silverstein and Shelly Silverstein, faces criminal counts in front of U.S. District Judge Mónica Ramírez Almadani. Now living in Boca Raton, Florida, Bisnoff previously resided in Pacific Palisades, Santa Barbara, and Brentwood. Federal prosecutors allege Bisnoff founded ESOS Rings Inc. and solicited investor funds between 2017 and 2023 by fabricating the company’s financial health, product sales, and technological capabilities. Court documents state she claimed ESOS owned patents for “smart rings” capable of contactless payment processing and falsely promised investors steady profits from transaction fees. Investigative affidavits reveal that neither Bisnoff nor her firm held the patents she cited.
