The first steps are being taken to build a new housing development in Rochester that will help address the ongoing shortage. ROCHESTER, Minn. — A new housing development is breaking ground in Rochester to help address the city’s ongoing housing shortage. The Lennar development is being built on 60th Ave. NW and Behrens Lane NW. It will offer single-family homes and townhomes for both first-time and move-up buyers. There will also be a 55-plus lifestyle community known as Enclave at Pebble Creek. Overall, there will be around 874 home sites, including around 369 designed for people 55 years and older. “For the last ten years, Rochester has needed to build 1000 homes a year and we’ve only been building about 200, so with what Lennar is going to be doing, 6, 7, 8, 900 different homes, that’s really going to help our community and help solve that housing crisis that we’ve been dealing with,” said Pat Sexton, Rochester Area Builders president.  The development will feature amenities like a swimming pool, clubhouse, fitness center, pickleball court and trail. Lennar has been accepting offers on homes for the development. It isn’t known when construction will wrap up.
