GTA 6 trailer leaked on X / Twitter, forcing Rockstar Games to release an official version early

It’s been over a decade since the last Grand Theft Auto game came out so the Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2023 trailer release date for GTA 6 was a big deal.That is, until an anonymous leaker dropped the trailer on Elon Musk’s X, formerly known as Twitter, a day early.Being that the leaked trailer was making its way across the internet, Rockstar Games clearly felt forced to release their own official version of the GTA 6 trailer early. It’s now available to view on YouTube.X account @Gta6trailerleak was seemingly set up specifically for one purpose: Leak the GTA 6 trailer. The video wasn’t up for long, based on screenshots floating around. It appears X suspended the account no more than one hour after it posted the leaked trailer. According to The Verge’s Tom Warren, Rockstar made their official trailer public around 10 minutes after X suspended the leaked video uploader.The leaked video, which we now know was legitimate, had a “BUY $BTC” watermark overlaid over the entire clip.Musk’s X is no stranger to leaks, piracy, and copyrighted content being posted.
