A Haverford man has lost $2.4 million in a WhatsApp fraud. Township police said on May 13 they received the report from the victim in the the 600 block of West Lancaster Avenue that he got caught up in an online stock exchange scam. The fraud started about five months ago when he received a notification as part of a text chain on WhatsApp, said Haverford Deputy Chief T.J. Long. The victim was solicited to send funds in exchange for “trade signals” which would notify him when to make trades on the stock market. The victim claimed that, in total, he has wired $2.4 million in various allotments to Uganda as well as other places. The latest transaction involved a physical pickup of the funds.
