Google Maps’ augmented reality feature ‘Search with Live View’ will roll out next week in a handful of cities in the U.S. and around the world. Announced last September, Search with Live View builds upon the Live View feature that was originally rolled out three years ago. Live View is an AR feature that allows users to easily find their target destinations by overlaying arrows and directions on top of streets and buildings in Google Maps. The feature not only helps users navigate outdoors, but also inside malls, airports, and more. Augmented reality has become increasingly popular in recent years, and its usage is no longer restricted to games like Pokémon GO. AR-based shopping features are already relatively common, with some cosmetic brands offering customers the ability to try on lipsticks and other products virtually before ordering. Amazon has also introduced multiple augmented reality shopping features for online buyers, including a recent one called ‘Virtual Try-On for Shoes’ that lets users visualize how a pair of shoes will look on their feet.
