Kroger named Elaine Chao to its board, and Twitter's not happy about it

The Kroger Co. added former U.S. Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao, who served under ex-President Donald Trump, to its board of directors this week — and got a lot of flak for it on Twitter, where some called for a boycott.Chao’s name trended nationally on the site Wednesday, along with the hashtag #BoycottKroger, thanks to a stream of tweets about her appointment to the mammoth supermarket’s board. “I really don’t have a lot of choices in my area to buy groceries, but now that they’ve added Elaine Chao to the board of directors, I’m willing to drive miles out of my way to buy them elsewhere. #BoycottKroger,” one user tweeted.Another posted: “Kroger, if Elaine Chao is in, I’m out.
