Late Goal Secures First CAA Point For Elon – Elon University Athletics

ELON – A late goal by Magnus Jacobsen helped Elon (1-1-1, 0-0-1 CAA) secure its first point in the CAA South standings Sunday, as the Phoenix played William & Mary (1-2-1, 0-1-1 CAA) to a 1-1 tie at Rudd Field in the conference opener for both teams.  After William & Mary scored in the opening minutes of the contest, Jacobsen leveled the match at 1-1 in the 74th minute, heading the ball into the goal off a corner kick played into the box by Weston Jonke . The Phoenix outshot the Tribe 19-9, including an 11-4 advantage after halftime. Drew Hartman returned to Elon’s net, making a pair of saves. How It Happened The Tribe took an early lead with a second-minute goal. Joe Taylor attempted Elon’s first shot of the day in the 14th minute, with Dominik Renz following up with Elon’s first on target in the 16th minute.
